    Role of knife with gun

you obviously know nothing about the cane, or the knife, or stopping ability, or fighting, for that matter. I'd have no trouble justifying strikes at a man's limbs with a cane. Noone said anything about attacking anyone with a cane., either. Your places to kill a man with a 1" deep cut are not...

    how much practice?

for several years, I averaged over 1000 hours a year at the range, and probably 500 hours of casting, reloading, and working on the guns. Fun at the time, but I don't want to bother anymore. I discovered the reality of the ranges at which one can reliably hit men who are trying to kill you, and...

The importance of quick reset and bore axis?

1 hit per second is pretty slow for defensive work. If that's all the faster you can hit, you'd better have a very mean load, and you'd better never miss the chest, even when being shot at, dodging blows, at a cover using or moving man, in the dark, with your ears blown-out, eyes dazzled by...

    Converting Beretta 92FS to 9X23

Right on about the 9x21, but it can't be loaded to do anything that the 9x19 cant do, unless you go to the very short, 90 gr jhp's. See, the longer bulleted rds fill the space available in the mag as it is. The .080" longer case of the 9x21 just means that the bullets are seated more deeply...

    Is two better than one?

u needn't worry about that, because the 9x18 rd is of larger diameter than the 9x19 rd. However, if I thought that my wife couldn't tell the diff, I'd not only not be married to her, I wouldn't be anywhere around her.

    Assistance Needed

I'd say it depends upon how much you figure on shooting the Taurus, and how much of that shooting will be with magnums. Alloy frames and magnums don't mix well, not at all, really, durability or accuracy-wise. I've got my doubt's about Taurus long term durability, anyway. I wouldn't pay much...

    maximum effective range of rifles

since when is the torso 18" wide, and 6 ft tall? :-) The torso is but 12" wide of vital zone, and 24" tall, on a big man, frontally. 50% of the time, the man will be sideways, and skinny little Asians are a mere 8" wide. Most of the time, if you are prone, in the field, you won't be able to see...

    Rick's resolution = Buy a .40+ calibered rifle

So what critters in the east require more the .44 pistol, anyway? Moose are not hard to approach within pistol range, nor hard to down or track after being hit. The black bear is taken with dogs or over bait, so it also presents very close range shots. The 6" M29 .44 has taken every species...

    Sub-2k

Just read that Keltec has a folder 223 which caliber beats-out the 9mm pretty badly, for the sort of things that one wants a folding-stock for, I'd say. The Sub2k was grossly over-priced when it first debued, something like $700. In a day of $500 AR-15's, that was a joke.

Whatcha think about the Winchester 67?

yes, many of those dark, stained or painted old .22's have gorgeous grain under all that crud. My M67 was my first rifle, and when I later scoped it and tried Eley 10x ammo in it, it grouped 1/4" at 50 yds. Unfortunately, before I discovered that, I'd already given it to my nephew.

    .223 "match" hollow points...fragmentation?

yaah man. I shot chucks with a 50 gr Hornady "SX" sp, at 3000 fps from a 222, and they would never exit the chuck! I'd shoot crows with it, and they'd be killed so suddenly that they couldnt let go of the limb that they sat on!

    Is two better than one?

Dump the HK, and with the extra $500 get both a $400 used Kahr compact steel framed 9mm for practice, and a 6", 16 oz, Kahr PM 9mm compact for carry. Then you don't have to worry about beating up or dirtying up your carry gun. Put 20 rds a month thru the carry gun, clean it once or twice a...

    9 X 23 Question?

the reason that this is the case are manyfold. The main reason is the cost of 9x19 ammo being about 1/3rd of the cost of 9x23 ammo. Another is the lack of DA or Glocks in this caliber. The 9x23 is too long to fit in the mags of the many guns that are built around the 9x19 cartridge. The 357...

What's wrong with people who are bashing .45's?

Thos old clunk GM .45's had no speed safeties, and no memory groove beavertail grip safeties, and the guys hadn't been taught to get a high grasp on the gun, and leave their thumbs atop the safeties while firing. A lot of GI mags are pieces of junk, too. I'll take the sometimes jamming 1911...

As an MP, 1971, I fired a total of 50 rds

of .45 ammo, to "familiarize" and to "qualify" with the pistol. Very few military guys get to fire the pistol enough for it to amount to more than a club as a weapon. Nor do they get the chance to even dryfire it, practice gunhandling, etc. So don't kid yourself about them being any better off...

Qualities in a defensive vs. offensive handgun?

or aluminum, tin, pewter, or copper. The mandate is to get the weight down under 80 grs, the velocity over 2100 fps. 60 grs at 2400 fps can be attained, from a 5" barrel. After all, the THV Arcane .45 was 60 grs at 2200 fps, and that was in regular .45 ACP ammo. They also got 45 grs to 2400...

    The forgotten front sight

When it's for real, as a civilan, the odds are 50-50 that you will fire at 3 ft or less. They are 2 to 1 that you will fire at 6 ft or less. They are 4 to 1 that you will fire at 10 ft or less, and 10 to 1 that you will fire at 20 ft or less. I dont need to see the sights to hit a man's chest...

Help me decide on a carry gun!!

PM Kahr 9mm compact, Polymer, 16 ozs, 7 rds, 6" long. You can always have that with you, in a front pants pocket holster. The best 9mm loads beat the 180 gr .40 gr load, all to hell, when both are fired from 3" barrels. 90 grs at 1450 fps= real expansion and 400 ft lbs. That's a lot better...

    Strike Three Ammo?

it's a bad joke, man, forget it. low power and penetration, no expansion, and no accuracy at all.

    I Dare Anyone

I know of 2 each leg shots, .45, .22 rf done while fast drawing. The 2 .45 hittees were fine in a couple of weeks, the 2 hit with .22's were in casts and on crutches, for months. It just depends on what is hit. The .45's hit nothing, the .22's cut arteries, nerves, and hit bone.
