    What is your dream revolver?

I own several (actually more than I should!) revolvers, but my "dream" revolvers are the few I have that were custom made for PPC shooting. When I started into the sport (back in the early 70s) I went to my first match with my trusty LAPD issue stock K-38… maybe not so stock because back then...

New Member? Introduce yourself here (just intros, questions get answered elsewhere)

New to this forum but not new to guns/shooting. Retired big city cop (LAPD), former Pistol Team member and Academy Forearms Instructor, fired in a lot of pistol matches and have written a number of articles in the past for gun magazines. I currently live in CA but my wife and I just bought a...

    Is 6 Shots Really Enough?

Hmmm, interesting response considering some of the posts that are already on the record. I was just wondering because there are probably a lot of LEOs on these boards who would appreciate the opportunity to voice an opinion on training issues and well as tactics; couldn't hurt if they did, but...

    Is 6 Shots Really Enough?

Just curious, why no comments pertaining to law enforcement training/tactics?

Need some Help Explaining a couple of things

Yep, it's a movie alright (End Of Watch), but that particular chase scene was one of the better ones that Hollywood has put together. I actually worked that area of South Central L.A. and I drove those same streets (albeit in the mid-60s), and the only fault I could find -- or maybe question --...

    Is 6 Shots Really Enough?

Thanks man, just trying to keep it real.

    Is 6 Shots Really Enough?

Klean, I'm not without personal knowledge on this subject; I was a big city LEO (retired now) and I have seen and investigated the aftermath of many street muggings, assaults, stabbings and shootings. I was also (and still am) fairly handy with firearms, more so and especially handguns, so I'm...

Ouch! I thought we had agreed to disagree?

I carry around the house does this sound crazy

Just my opinion but, yes, carrying around the house is ... strange. Unless you live in a ghetto environment and know neighbors who have been robbed inside their own homes/apartments, carrying at home may be an overreaction to a non-problem.

    Is 6 Shots Really Enough?

Madcap, by gosh I think you got it! The fact is we never know ahead of time what the immediate future holds in the way of a zombie challenge; it may be one zombie or two or three or maybe more. But the fact is (and statistically speaking) most encounters will entail just one suspect, in which...

What is it about revolvers we like so much?

Like I said, we can agree to disagree and be done with it. As my dear departed dad used to say: Son, opinions are sphincters, everyone has one.

What is it about revolvers we like so much?

Vern, with all due respect (and I mean this sincerely) no one can assume to know what "surprises" are in store for them when they leave the comfort and security of their home; so we can either walk outside looking like a Spec Ops agent wearing full-on tactical gear and back-ups for the primary...

Hammer spring screw, do i need to tighten all the way

I personally have seen duty police revolvers fail because someone tried to be smarter than the company who designed and manufactured the gun. Keep the screw in tight!

What is it about revolvers we like so much?

When it come to handguns there are two distinct camps, revolver vs semiauto, and this forum is proof positive of that opinion. I'll keep it short and sweet; both styles have their fans and their assumed uses, with the two biggest issues being dependability and firepower. The bottom line is you...

    Frustrated with five shot revolvers

Opinion from an old LEO firearms instructor: some handguns are fun to shoot and they are naturals for plinking, some are not. Generally speaking the bigger and faster the bullet is, and the smaller/lighter the gun is the less fun it is to shoot, and the harder it is to hold a good group for...

Greetings from So Cal, Ventura County! I'm a retired LEO (LAPD), former Marine and past NRA Field Rep, and I've also done a lot of comp pistol shooting, but not too much these days because of the cost of ammo and lack of places to shoot in my area. I also play a little golf and tennis, so that...

What is it about revolvers we like so much?

A lot of posters hit the nail on the head (IIwsgn sounds like my bro from another mo!) but the bottom line for me is simplicity and dependability. Yes, revolvers rarely hold more than 5 or 6 shots, but in the whole scheme of things they work 100 percent of the time right out of the box, no...

    Help me understand J-frames

I'm sure there are people here who know more about this than I do, but I see the basic difference in J-Frames as being they are either steel or alloy (allowing some J-Frames to handle +P ammo), and they can come with or without a hammer. Other than I don't see much difference.

    How do you carry speedloaders...

Personal opinion: unless you are a working LEO (or armed security) there is generally no reason to carry a speedloader; the necessary bulge is a big tip off that you're carrying, and speedloaders with an unaltered 5-shot revolver can be a real disappointment. My recommendation for a possible...
