    The THR Walker Club

Hey elhomberconnonobre Whittington's books are a no b.s. starting point for a serious study of the Walker Colt. Many of the things on this thread have come from his research and writing. Thanks for the reference tip. I will do a search for the Colts Records correspondence. I have a loading...

45-70 ammunition for my new rifle

Yep, agreed. My older Farmingdale liked the 405 but it also has a 20" twist. Same is true for my Browning '86. The Lyman Sharps should be loaded with at least 500 gr bullets. Then shoot with confidence from here next Sunday.

    Walker Grips

jaxenro- Thanks, I'll look them up. Just followed the posted link to percussion revolvers. Great! I'm sure I'm going to like that website.

45-70 ammunition for my new rifle

If your intent is 200 yards or less when whacking deer in the Alabama pines then the lighter bullet will suffice. The 18" twist is designed to stabize the heavier 500+ grain bullets which is a nice option. If you don't intend to cast then the Speer 405 jacketed SP will flatten a southern...

    The THR Walker Club

Over the past couple of Saturdays I have gone through the entire 145 pages of this thread. Yeah I know, simple minded for sure. Since it's colder than a banker's heart here in Montana territory, there'll be NO shooting until..........? April???? Nevertheless, I have found some real jewels of...

    The THR Walker Club

A Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to all. Well, the addiction continues. Since my last post I have reacquired my old signature series Walker Colt, packed both revolvers to the Republic of Texas and emptied all twelve cylinders across the vast expanse of the North Concho River. Was down there...

    The THR Walker Club

So far Amazon is the only source I've found on the net for Whittington's book on the Walker. Range is anywhere from $300 to $1500+.............so the search will continue. I like to read, but that's getting beyond my choke point.

That's a wonderful piece of your family history. Lots of 49'ers headed to California on that Pinta Trail, or so I've read. I've been in Montana for over 40 years, but you know, you can take the boy out of Texas, but you can never take Texas out of the boy. All my family roots are tied to...

    Blunderbuss reproduction

Stonewall Creek markets an excellent kit for a 4 bore. Top quality components including an Ed Rayl barrel. His brass barrel is a kit option. Not cheap, but quality never is.

November Muzzle Blast article on buffalo hunting

Haven't received the latest Muzzle Blast yet, but runnin buff on horseback is something just short of a rodeo. Yep, throw down some powder, spit the ball down on top of it, then slam the butt of the gun down on top of the saddle pommel to seat the ball. It works much better with a flintlock...

A nice pair of Walker's there Bandera. Don't see many of the Texas Volunteer issue on the market. I really get a kick out of your quote about cold camping on the Pinta Trail. It's been a long time since I saw reference to that Hill Country road way. Must be a good history book devoted to...

    The THR Walker Club

This is my Walker Colt, currently with the conversion cylinder in use. These photos were taken Saturday afternoon on the banks of the Yellowstone River opposite the mouth of the Powder River. Lots of history at this spot; Lewis and Clark; Custer and Terry; Gus and Woodrow

    The THR Walker Club

The Colt Walker is heavy, off balanced, hard to hold steady with one hand, and an American icon. I love 'em, and no self respecting Texican or wannabe Ranger should be without one. Just found this thread and am delighted to be amongst kindred souls. I have a Uberti and intend to buy another...
