Is there a range in the greater Houston area where I can zero a rifle at 25 yards? And please don't say American Shooting Centers. They don't have it.
Also please no opinions as to whether or not I OUGHT to zero the rifle at 25 yards. I put...
Understand that the loads and grain sizes vary greatly, and the 1895G can handle all of them, though I suggest you run a dry patch through the barrel before going hunting/to the range/whatever if you are going to shoot super hot and heavy loads. The gun can take these loads. Over and over and...
Bushmaster M4gery with the works, chrome-lined barrel, 30 round mags... got rid of it. It doesn't have the charm of a good bolt or lever gun or a Garand and I needed the money... but I still regret it to this day. The Marlin 1895G is now my only rifle and I find it to be a great "one gun", but...
+1. Get a real AK. Why mess with one of the most reliable autoloading mag-fed rifles ever designed? If you want more accuracy get something else. I personally don't like the .223 because it does not penetrate cover. If you have a round that penetrates cover, then you can coax a target out of...
I'm no expert, and I don't know the answer, but every cloud has a silver lining - I feel blessed that they picked the cartridge that can kill the widest array of targets. Also, the .45-70 is a hell of a heavy bullet with an unforgiving parabola (one would assume better lateral stability as a...
All true; my point was that pistols are often much handier in close quarters and good shot placement to the vitals with a pistol may be your best option if one lives in a beehive like the one I'm trying to get out of right now. Fortunately there are a few JHP options out there that do not meet...
rcmodel, this o-ring is a #36. I also have some #5s. Which is better to use? This is snug but that's what we want I think. And I have 9 more of the #36 size ones and 10 of the #5s because I thought it was a little large. I picked the best two options at Lowe's and went with the one that felt better.
I think it's a good idea, and to add a rail to my M1895 would be interesting. It may happen. I am a fan of the .45-70 regardless of the environment, though some will disagree with me on this. If you are surrounded by sheet rock it may be best to reach for your PISTOL or a cheap SxS that works...
Redundant from another thread but not entirely
Mods! You're looking at an XS setup. Will zero on Thursday! Also rubber O-ring and blank dovetail on the way.
By the way removal of the stock rear open sight couldn't be any easier. Flip it up, lift it and push the elevation notches all the way...
I figured what the hell, flipped the open sight up, pulled up on the leaf with my fingers, slid something paper under there and used a punch to remove it. That thing was annoying me big time, I'd rather have a blank, agreed. Stainless.
Well the only reason to take it off is because it has an annoying tendency to flip up easily. But I was told I might as well leave it on there until it's time to get a rail...
SGW, a fellow houstonian!
I got the rear and front sights on. There are two screws on the stock sight, one of them you have to tap out the post in order to get to it. The middle contraption I guess I will leave on until I get my rail. :)
guys, for some reason I can't find anything on this. I have installed the rear XS ghost ring sight for my guide gun no problem, but I need procedures on how to remove the buckhorn leaf rear sight thingy and the front sight so I can get this rifle ready for some serious action. Thanks for the...
Salvo, I believe Greg's is stainless that has been polished a bit. I know for a fact he has the stainless version. And oh my god look at all those Marlins... I say "wow" wholeheartedly. Nice collection, Mo.
