    worst recoiling rifle

Over my years of shooting I have had many opportunities to shoot some of the worst recoiling rifle known, at least that is what the owners bragged. I grew up with .348 Winchester in a model 71 that had the narrowest but plate I have ever seen on any rifle, it hurt to shoot even when you had game...

    Defend the large hunting knife!

Maybe - maybe Not Personally, I carry one of those that shows I am a green horn, with about 40 years of hunting in the NW for deer, elk, bear, squirrels, hog, and whatever other game is available. My blade happens to be a 10 1/2" long 1/4" thick Solingin Steel, 15" overall, made in the 1920's...

Oldest 38 Special Powder Still In Existence

Actually, the oldest powder for a .38 Special was 3fg black powder. You can Wiki that for a .38 Special if you like. As for smokeless, it would probably be Unique, although there are a few others that we no longer have that were probably used before. Ray

Rubber gloves and lead bullet seating...

Except with the exception of Schwing, I probably have a higher lead content than most anyone else on this board, that said. I grew up in a place called Kellogg, ID during the peek of Bunker Hill and the rest of those mining conglomerates. Lead was every where, both raw and smelted. I have a lead...

Black powder in 45L/C...WHAT A MESS!!

Yea, BP in a 357, as I remember, the first loads in the little .38 special were BP, then it went to smokeless. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.38_Special) the link shows this. So I had to try BP in a longer case, don't remember what the grain weight of, just a nearly full case, the slug was a 158...

Black powder in 45L/C...WHAT A MESS!!

If you are shooting a stainless firearm time is less of a factor, but I would guess anything inside an 8 hour time frame would be OK with black As for smell, that is something those of us who really like black have come to enjoy! Thanks for the tip, I will get a pound and try it with the rest...

Black powder in 45L/C...WHAT A MESS!!

SS I used Pyrodex in my 44 mag some years back then went to black powder. Much prefer the black, clean ups a snap if you have a stainless steel revolver. All I do is load the cases with 20 grains of black, compress it a little, 1/16" or so install a card wad (.030), grease cookie of lube, and...

45-70 ammunition for my new rifle

Interesting reading I haven't been here very long this time, used to spend a lot of time on THR, but work and moving around made that less possible, but I'm here again. Got a Sharps in 45-70 from BACO 5 years ago, have only got about 500 rounds through it with heavy (550 gr.) grease groove...
