Inexpensive .223 single shot rifle on my radar

Handi is probably a 1:12 twist. Great for the 45 grain varmint bullets.

    Scope bite!

I got the wake-up eyebrow touch when I was young. I had only shot scoped bb guns and 22s, basically cheap gimmick scopes, and then I got to shoot a real scoped rifle. Initially I got way up on the scope then realized I needed a few inches of space there in order to see a sight picture. Fired the...

What would you tell yourself back then?

Lots of good stuff here. Aside from the monetary advice I'd tell young me to spend more time practicing with .22s, get your C & R asap and use it before the supply runs dry, and when you have the money to spend on that fancy custom gun go ahead and buy it. I found myself pondering a custom...

Have you lost any "friends" because of your interest in firearms?

I haven't lost any friends but a great deal of distance has been created between myself and some of them after we had some serious gun rights conversations. Some friends from the UK refused to even entertain the concept of 2A rights (go figure) and reduced the conversation to "stop with your...

    410 crazy

I grew up shooting my brother's single shot and my bolt action with no magazine aka a clumsy single shot. Later I bought a NEF single and a Savage 24. Love my .410s, I will always treasure them.

are gun forums losing their alure?

I still visit here and GBO but not daily like I used to. When I revisited THR after being away for awhile I too was surprised hiw much lower the numbers were. I'm often the only member reading a given thread. That never used to happen. Activity is lower on GBO as well. I agree part of it is...

    Anyone Rarely/Never clean a barrel?

I rarely clean my guns unless I've shot corrosive ammo. I strip, clean, and oil new guns before firing them but after that it's mostly basic maintenance. Cleaning actions and oiling and greasing. When I start feeling guilty I run some patches through the bore, probably every 2000 rounds or so. I...

The Wonderful Quality of Late Model Uberti's

I have a birdshead .45 of theirs, love that gun. Great shooter for the money, and gorgeous to look at, IMO.

    My all-around rifle.

I can't argue with a single choice on this one. Great caliber, spec'd out properly, well done! I'd love to claim that rifle as my do-anything gun! Very cool!

    Ohio governor Kasich 'Gets It'

A lot of those fixes to Ohio gun laws came through the lobbying of the Buckeye Firearms Association. They have done a lot to improve our laws, but I agree the politicians that codified their suggestions into law deserve credit for doing so. Kasich went from supporting the AWB to being pretty...

Model 28, minty Ruger .___Six, etc. You are in a good position at $900.

Pistol Red Dot POA/POI shift with different shooters?

That would be one heckuva consistent flinch to group that well but hit that low! That Buckmark can win you guys some side money now, bet the other folks they can't hit within 6" of her group and take their cash all day long. That is quite the geometrical anomaly given that she shoots all those...

Is your action/war film enjoyment reduced?

I'm in the same boat with car and gun stuff. Twelve upshifts and cocking Glocks both make me grind my teeth. Eventually I have to say something. "The guy just said the car has dual quads AND fuel injection! And THAT guy is waving a pistol around that is OBVIOUSLY out of battery! Come on!!!"...

Source for some nice Bisley grips?

Wow, Tim has Corian grips? Interesting use of that material. Some good looking stuff in there.

Source for some nice Bisley grips?

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, I'm liking the elk! I'll look into Hogue as well, black would look good against the stainless.

Source for some nice Bisley grips?

Hi guys, Every time I shoot my 5.5" Stainless Bisley Blackhawk with stronger .45LC loads I remember that the factory grips look pretty but seem to hit my hand in the wrong spots. The contour is just odd compared to more authentic replica designs like on Cimarrons, Ubertis, etc. I don't even...

.410 ga Buckshot vs 12 ga Buckshot?

Those pellets in .410 are already lined up then they exit through a full choke in most cases, so they chew a nice deep hole until you stretch the range out. 12 bore is still better, but .410 can do the job out of a full size shotgun.

.410 ga Buckshot vs 12 ga Buckshot?

I have shot a lot of .410 000 buck. The stuff hits hard and patterns tight at in-the-house distances. They're just 85 grain .36 caliber balls, but five in a two inch pattern is NASTY. In a real shotgun (not a revolver) they should do the job.

Things you learn living in a shady neighborhood

I live in a place like that, although we rent a house so there is a slight buffer compared to being in an apartment complex. I would add something but the OP nailed all the highlights. Don't draw attention, if you get interviewed be the jerk that stonewalls so they go away, and be aware at all...

    Show me your SAA clones

I'd post mine but it looks exactly like Stoky's. Birdshead Uberti in .45, love that gun.
