How do you feel about Dicks not selling “assault” rifles?

Just feeds into the liberal narrative that “assault weapons” are inherently evil. Won’t be spending another dime there, at Dick’s, ever.

How much are we willing to give up?

Magazine limits are useless, ESPECIALLY now that 3D printing is making great strides. The VA Tech shooter used handguns, mostly with 10-round magazines, and that held the title of “deadliest shooting in the US” for about a decade. Magazines are just a box with a spring in it. But oh don’t...

    Thoughts on the mini 14?

More accurate than an AR of the same or lower price?? The odds are against the Mini-14. But, there can be considerable variation in accuracy and reliability amoungst rifles of the same model, so YMMV. I like the -14 (and -30, for that matter) and if it's what looks good to you - then by all...

California rampage puts spotlight on homemade 'ghost guns'

Vast conspiracy? No. Who needs a vast conspiracy? Heck, it could have been just one or two people to talk an already mentally unbalanced person into it. Not necessarily what happened, just a possibility.

    AK 47 or AK 74

Personally, I like the 7.62x39 in an AK, and if I feel the need to shoot a smaller boolit, I'd use an AK in 5.56x45 (an Arsenal, Valmet, etc.)

Why are .22 caliber rifles always exempt from gun bans?

It's ironic, in the larger sense: the attempt on President Reagan was carried out with a .22 RG-14 revolver. 22's are sometimes not covered by a ban... and revolvers are sometimes not covered by a ban. At some level, it's like some leftists are trying to ban everything *but* the weapon used on...

What was the first semi auto handgun you ever shot, and what was the first one you purchased?

First handgun I ever saw and held was a 1911 - an original made in 1919. First I ever shot was a Ruger P85. First I bought was a S&W M&P 40. Favorite... oh now that IS tough... BHP 40? Sig 220 in 10mm?

    AR-15 or Shotgun...

Just my personal experience, of course, but when working with new shooters it seems much easier to get them to keep a rifle pointed in the right direction, than a handgun (I am more worried about their chances to hurt themselves or friendlies, and less worried about their ability to hurt bad...

    AR-15 or Shotgun...

I'll add my vote to the pistol being less effective in the hands of a total novice (and possibly more likely to hit a friendly or themselves). AR all the way

Need Help Deciding On 5 New Guns

I'd look at: A milled receiver Arsenal AK SBR (The quality on my Arsenal milled receiver is amazing) (And/or) A Robinson XCR-L in 7.62x39 SBR (I have one with a 10-inch barrel and it's awesome!). Also available in 7.62x51 in the XCR-M, analogous to the SCAR-17... A Sig P220 in 10mm A Sig MPX...

Need help with Valmet M-78 mags.

Only place I recall seeing them recently was Gunbroker - for outrageous prices - even worse than mags for the 5.56 M76. Way back, I saw them at Sarco, Numrich, and maybe even RTGparts Edited to add: last time a 20-round mag sold, it was for $60. A 30-round mag sold for (whoa) $415(!)

    AR-15 or Shotgun...

To answer the question you posed directly: get AR's. The versatility of a modern semi-auto rifle is too great to ignore.

    7.62x39mm Semi-Auto Rifle - Ruger Mini 30?

Another vote to at least look at the PTR-32. Basically an HK in 7.62x39 - uses standard AK magazines, and uses standard HK parts (HK parts are easy to find, but can get pricey). Love the HK sights for close range. At the price point of a Mini, there are options. An AR in 7.62x39 is certainly an...

    Any PTR-91 owners here?

Just to back up what mshootnit said, some parts (not all, but some) are notably lower quality - at least on the example I bought, oh, 6 years ago? The locking piece in particular looked like it made out of play doh comparted to the HK part I bought. Other parts appeared to be equal to the HK...

Stop accepting blame, stop apologizing, and stop feeling guilty

It's pure idiocy to try to ban a technology that is so simple - and this is without even considering the rapid advances in 3D printing. Semi-automatic firearms were invented over a CENTURY ago. And if someone is going to a range with a semi-auto - WHO CARES - why throw people in jail who...

    Bump fire ban bill

That... is a great point. Yet another shining example of where gun control laws so often have unintended consequences and actually incentivize behavior the writers of those gun control laws then later complain about (like the continual redesigns to work around the various "assault weapons" ban...

    Any PTR-91 owners here?

I have the 7.62x39 version, the PTR-32. I love the HK sights. With the ammo I use, it doesn't seem to be noticeably dirtier than an AR overall. The fouling on mine is just really concentrated in the chamber, with very little anywhere else. I've never had a problem, but a friend was shooting...
