I think that it all depends on Bears size. 9mm might work for little Black bears but the more substantial Griz, browns and Polars you would best be advised for bigger guns. Low end I would think 44 mag. When I roam the mountains Im thinking 45-70. Bad and mad bears can ruin your day.
I always find it amusing that a question is asked about specific calibers and there is always someone has to throw in something off tropic. For example the question was 308-30:30 yet .35 made its way into the dialogue.
just saying
In actuality the Person with the broom stick should have the advantage. A bat can swung and that's about it. A broom stick can be swung used to poke or slashing type strikes. A cool calculating mind will overcome a frenzied antagonist.
Just saying.
Really
I purchased a 45-70 marlin and very pleased with this weapon. Good fit. no blemishes. I am surprised to hear that so many expierenced people would buy a defective gun. When I bought mine I a) cycled the action several times, b) looked down the barrel to check the rifling c) checked...
I have had little exposure to the 380 so I will not give in opinon but back in the good old days My servive weapon was the Model 10 38 special. with 158 grain + p ammunition. This was supposedly close to 357 in performance. This firearm and ammo was discontinued not do to performance but to...
The one thing that is different from LEO and civilians is that LEO have a Use of Force model that they have to adhere too. Civilians are not hampered by agency policy or oversite committees. A civilian shooting is justified or not , LEO has a that plus a whole gambet to run after the event...
I read somewhere that if your are using a handgun for Brown bear or grizzly defence to shave the front site off the gun so that it will fit up his nose while you are being mauled. Im thinking 45-70 or twelve gauge with slugs. Im thinking if I got charged by a big bear might not be able to hit...
well Im a 45-70 person and my reasoning is if it is good enough for Grizz it should work for lions. I have never hunted in Africa but a consideration not mentioned is multiple targets. My information comes from National Geographic but do not lions travel in Prides. Taking that into...
I used the 870 as a service weapon for years. I bought the Defender as my HD gun. For me it is lighter and points better. Lots of practice , lots of rounds and no problems.
The pump shotgun hasn't gone anywhere. The beauty of it is simplicity of action. The action of cycling a round (raking) in its self if formable. During my requalification it was called charging for psychological affect. Everyone knows what that sound means. Put some #4 buck and you have a...
In a self defense situation a person is reacting to a threat. If the threat cannot be avoided , then to eliminate the threat the greatest amount of focused violence be brought to bear until treat is eradicated.
If you have liberal leanings shoot the gun out of his hand, If your leanings are...
I have to agree with Cee Zee. When I decided to purchase a New Rifle I had a specific criteria. I research what I was looking for and decided on a 45-70 marlin. I did something that apparently do on this site do. I took it out of the box. I checked fit. sights and action. All were good.
I...
The 303 by far. The 30-30 is a great bush gun but 303 is better for bigger game
Having said that I find it funny that regardless of the question someone invariably throws in their preferences. The question was 3030 or 303 enfield nothing to do with 444 or 375 or what ever.
Just saying.
