Based on reading various posts on this forum I had decided on percussion and 1:48 twist before posting my inquiry. I wasn't sure whether or not traditional style rifles have a breech plug. Evidently swabbing a rifle from the muzzle can do an adequate job...
I may buy a muzzle loading rifle for plinking and/or target shooting; round balls should be fine for me unless I start casting. Probably I will want to mount an aperture sight. IIRC I have seen a post on this forum stating that traditional style rifles are easier to clean. The traditional...
S&W mdl 25, light hits, easily fixed so i shouldn't have counted it as a failure.
Taurus Mdl 94, cylinder binding on several occasions, probably not yet broken in.
Taurus Mdl 731, trigger failing to return firing postion after firing a shot. Happened once or twice per six rounds...
I think that I may have asked the wrong question. The .22 barrel is grooved for scope mounts. It was my thought that mounts that would fit would only accept rimfire scopes. I also thought that a rimfire scope would be damaged by the recoil of firing the shotgun barrel.
A little research...
I have just acquired a model 24 in 22LR/20 gauge. The upper barrel is grooved for a scope. Would a rimfire scope withstand the recoil of the shotgun barrel? Is there an option other than a rimfire scope?

I'll flog the deceased horse a little as well.
I have had five Taurus revolvers. Four were purchased new; two of those had problems. The other two new ones and the used revolver worked well. The 905 that I owned had a nice trigger and very nice finish.

It appears to me that Taurus revolvers are sometimes good and sometimes not so good. I have a Taurus 94 of more recent vintage. Extremely heavy DA trigger pull; much heavier than a S&W Model 60 I rented at a range. Cylinder occasionally binds. I have not sent it back to Taurus for repair...
I had a blue 905 DAO. It worked fine and even had a nice trigger. Recoil was pretty snappy but tolerable. The moon clips did not seem to hold the cartridges firmly. I never tested the clips by dropping or some such. I sold the 905 on my way to acquiring a 357 SP101. In retrospect, the 905...
Mine worked well ...
but I sold it due to the snappy recoil. Pachmayr grips were a lot better than the stock grips. I had no problems with stuck cases (but did not shoot any high pressure rounds). No light strikes or other function problems. The stellar clips did not appear to grip the...
Some counties allow rifles
Some counties in NYS allow the use of rifles for deer hunting. Maybe those same counties also allow the use of handguns for hunting deer.

gunsmith in Las Cruces
I don't know if there is a gunsmith in El Paso. there is one in Las Cruces, at Custom Cartridge. He is there on weekdays.
How about asking at the Ft. Bliss gun Club?

Super-steroid .45 Colts
One of the guns reviewed in the April issue of Gun Tests was a Ruger Alaskan in .454. The editors elected to not shoot .454, instead shooting a variety of .45 Colt loads. They liked the Alaskan with very heavy .45 Colt loads.

CAnnoneer and PlayboyPenguin, thanks for your replies. Not sure if I will get a .44 Magnum, but I have revolvers to shoot, so it isn't an urgent decision.

.32 Magnum
I am with mnrivrat on this one. If your wife has small hands, a K frame (for example, a Model 10) may be too large. If her hands are not strong, an SP101 may feel too heavy. I think that any lightweight .38 will kick too hard for her comfort. My wife has rheumatoid arthritis; her...
Blackhawk 44
I have thought of getting a Blackhawk .44 Magnum, but my enthusiasm has cooled somewhat after reading some of the posts above. I had a .45 Colt Blackhawk for awhile, and did not find the recoil objectionable, but did not shoot any heavy loads with it. Those of you who did not...
SP101 is good
Based upon the chronograph results published in Gun Tests reviews of 2" revolvers, .357 is significantly more powerful than .38 despite the short barrels. Naturally the more powerful cartridge fired in the same gun will kick more. I prefer shooting .38 in my SP101, but I can...
