I found a really nice pre-10, 38spl, 5 screw at a shop today. It locks up fine, has about 70-80% bluing. It has fake bone grips on it right now. They will let me have it for $175. I wrote down the serial number. Can anyone tell me when it was made? It is S 88502x Thanks.

Did the engraver mention if the engraved surface would be more suseptible to rust? I think it looks great. you just want to do this to a rifle you plan to keep. If you ever decide to trade up, most gun stores would probably lower their offer on it because you "altered" it.

Henry makes a nice, shorter version of its lever action .22. They also make a light weight bolt(but it is single shot). I think Marlin also has a shorter version of one of their .22 rifles, made for young shooters.

Iver Johnson made one in the 80's chambered in 9mm. It's a good shooter and likes the cheap Win. White Box ammo.
