3 gun - slugs and full chokes?

Check with the manufacturer (gun or choke, if not the same) about slugs and full choke. I have never needed full choke at a 3gun match, but I do not get put as much as I used to, so things may have changed. I keep some high brass bird shot for longer shots. For me, Fiocchi Aero slugs, 1...

    870 Setup for 3-Gun?

I suggest contacting the extension vendor. Also, posting on a competition-focused forum might help, http://forums.brianenos.com/forum/49-shotgun-technical/ Have fun!

What guns are you most sentimentally attached to.

Ruger 10/22. First gun. I wish my uncle had not needed a few bucks and sold Grandpa's guns. I would have paid him to keep them in the family. No great monetary value, but lots of sentiment.

What one single firearm would you choose as a gift?

Zeliska. Spendy to shoot, but who cares? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfeifer_Zeliska_.600_Nitro_Express_revolver

carrying slugs and shot/keeping them separated

For 3-gun, I color code. Bird is green or purple, buck is red, slugs are white/clear. Slugs used to be blue, but I switched to a lighter load, Fiocchi low recoil.

    Question about winchester q3131

That is true for 308 vs 7.62 NATO, not for 223 vs 5.56.

    Question about winchester q3131

Q3131A is made in Israel, and is considered good. Q3131USA ( I would guess ) is made in the US. It is sometimes called USA brand because of packaging. Q3131 is generally good, although I have not gotten any since the bad batch in the 90's, and there are so many other choices now. Probably...

    Competitive Shotgun

Selective loading: first in, last out. Actually, same as with tube magazines. If the stage is 3 birdshot targets, 2 slugs, then 1 birdshot, you load 1 bird, followed by 2 slugs, then 3 bird. Maybe an extra round in case of a miss, but you have to be careful not to shoot a birdshot target with a...

    Competitive Shotgun

I will read your detailed post in detail later, but a full choke may not help, since plates are rarely at 40 yards, so change ammo to something with more oomph (more pellets and more velocity), or ask if you can use buckshot. Also, a mix of plates, slugs, and aerial clays may be on the same...

    Competitive Shotgun

A 9 round magazine probably does not stick out past a 24" barrel, so the mag tube will not the hits it would with a 21-22" barrel. I use a clamp, but I also shoot an occasional night match so that is a secure place to put a light, at least using the Nordic clamp, and I do not want to swap it...

    Competitive Shotgun

My 3-gun fun has been dominated more by arthritis, than success, but I will share some experience. If you are comfortable with a pump, start with that; I did with a Mossberg 590. Loading is where shotgun speed is, not shooting, especially for new shooters. Also, there are so many ways to...

Need THR help needed choosing a competition 9mm.

If 3-gun is the priority, do not think about a single stack 1911. Wide body 1911 (STI, SVI, Para Ordnance) or other high capacity is what you want. In the under $1000 range, Glock, XDM, and M&P are common at matches.

Low Odor Mineral Spirits & Plastic Coffee Cans or Plastic Bags in Cleaning Handguns

I thought I had cleaned all the cosmoline off a rifle with boiling water and brushes and some solvents. I put the rifle in front of the (operating) woodstove, just to dry out, and the heat melted even more gunk. So heat is better than solvents to start.

A gun so miserable to shoot, you want it anyway?

The pain was miserable when I shot a 454 Casull but I wanted it anyway. Ruger, IIRC. But I already had a 44 magnum that hurt to shoot so I did not need something else to inflict pain :D (I did replace the grip on the 629 so now it hurts only with the balls-of-fire loads) If it hurts to...

Did Target Sports USA buy AmmoToGo's customer list from Russian hackers?

I got the email from Scott @ ATG. I also got an email from TargetSportsUSA, but Google sent it straight to my Spam folder. Interesting what Google knew and how they knew it.

    Match Fees?

If the USPSA match has a classifier, then there is a $3 fee to USPSA to cover the classification system. Also, the cost for wear and tear on props must be covered. You do not replace steel and props every month, but at some point, they wear out and have to be fixed or replaced and you need...

    Good source for steel targets?

I have some targets from Wideners. I have occasionally shot their 8" round plates as close as 25 yards with 223 FMJ: https://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=1020 I hang them with target side angled down.
