What is the last gun that you bought?

SCAR 17. FDE. Quite a piece of kit. B

    Help me feed my addiction...

You sound like you have the budget for one of the best. An H&K P7M8 (or P7M13 if you really have the funds). Rare, indestructible, very accurate and unique. Even shooting it regularly you will likely recoup your purchase price - should you ever make the mistake of selling it. B

    What new 9mm?

    Sig 556xi Russian

I have a lot of respect for Mac. He's a thoughtful, objective and reliable guy. But I've had a Sig 556 (original) in pistol/brace form and it's been perfect. Quite literally. Now that's shooting 5.56 but since the action on the Sig is based on the AK, I'd be confident. Statistically, it could...

Rifle choices: 44 Mag. or 45-70 Govt.?

If I was hunting coyotes and groundhogs I'd just take out my handy SCAR 17. 'Course that's like shooting Vespa scooters with an A10. So of your two choices, I'd pick the .44. The rounds are ubiquitously available, can be loaded in a very wide range of power factors, you likely have the matching...

    Good two-point sling for AR-15

Same for me. VTAC only for everything. They are, at first, a bit 'busy' but they work, they're dependable and flexible and feel like they'll last longer than the shooter. B

    Nikon scope lineup

FWIW, I have two of their M-233 scopes and, for the money they are outstanding. I could't ask for more. I also have one (2-9x?) for my .22LR which is a great scope. I am about to purchase a semi-auto .308 and their .308 calibrated M-series is pretty limited so I'm not sure I'lll stick with them...

    RangerProof Arms? (High-end AR-15)

Do you ever plan to sell it? Or can you at least imagine some day selling it? Do you care if you lose a lot on the sale? If the answer is, 'yea, I might sell it but I don't care how much money I'll lose', then buy it. B

Precision Rifle: Ruger vs. Savage vs. Tikka

OP, (and note, there may be just a bit of bias in the following - but I do have other rifle brands; I just don't shoot 'em anymore). The answer is Tikka. All other comments are simply incorrect (sorry, don't flame, I'm just being a wise guy). But really, the action of the Tikka bolt, the...

    TAVOR vs. SCAR: new rifle!

I own then both. Though given your military and arms experience I feel like a goof offering up advice. But here goes: 1. The difference in the round. Do you want a 308, plan to carry a bunch, want to pay the price for 'em and have to reach out and touch something at those distances? 2. They are...

    Now we look incompetent

    Ditto on both your comments.

Would you be interested in a 22 Tavor?

Not a whit of interest in a Tavor conversion. Even the 9mm doesn't get my blood flowing. The Tavor is an excellent, well balanced firearm with significant mass making it an ideal instrument for accuracy and follow up shot. You don't need all of that mass and design to squirt .22LR out of one...

    Drone Firing 9mm

A very rudimentary implementation. I've actually been surprised that this has not happened sooner. But I'm sure that there are many implementations that have yet to be shown in the public eye. Some by the DoD and others by some gifted hackers. As noted above, drone with GPS stabilization...

Help with light trigger strikes please?

Yes, I agree that this the proper scientific method. First: Take both to the range and swap uppers and shoot both Presuming the (previously failed) upper still fails then keep the uppers and lowers as they were and swap BCG's. If one fails and the other functions, make sure that the working one...

Help with light trigger strikes please?

First off, thanks JohnKSA and all the other contributors. Here's what I've done so far: 1. I pulled its 'clone' from the safe. Clone being same stripped upper and lower receiver, same SSA-E from Geissele, different barrel though. This gun has always worked perfectly. 2. I pulled BCD's from both...

Help with light trigger strikes please?

Hello, I took one of my home-made (left handed with Stag upper, lower and BCG) AR 5.56's (the gun also has a Geissele SSA-E trigger installed) to the range today. I've not shot it in a very long time, perhaps never in this configuration (I use this gun to experiment with new parts) and decided...

    Advice on Firearm Purchase

    I'd leave out the 1911 since you already have a semi-auto 9mm. I would get the AR-15/M4 and a 12 gauge shotgun. B

avoiding ear damage with powerful rifles

I find them useless as well. It might be the shape of the head and the ear canal. I made an early post in this thread that, I believe, was very useful. But re the ear canal, whenever I insert foam plugs they don't go 'in' (towards the center of my head), but rather 'up' and 'in' at a 45 degree...

    Might want a 308, but I have an '06...

Nice paraphrase: "There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" - Robert Kennedy. Sorry, just having a Jeopardy 'Potent Quotables' kind of day... :) B

    Might want a 308, but I have an '06...

I think that the biggest difference, by far, is at the ammo counter. In most shops (big box and small brick and mortar) as well as on-line the selection and pricing of .308 is greater in scale and lower in cost than 30-06. You will of course hear that when there was a severe ammo shortage there...
