    Evaluating reloads/hand loads

I do have a standard for my pistols, all fixed factory sights, and yes all less than 3" groups at 10 yards. I'm working on my rifles now. I have my standard for one and working my way up in caliber. It will take a while but it will get done.

    Funny , had to share

I have owned two, still have one. I was very happy with each one when I bought them and that hasn't changed. They were both dead on out of the box and still are, (my brother now has my old C9). I have a JCP 40 S&W and it is one of my favorites. That being said, unlike most others, if mine runs...

How is Ammunition Availability at Your Local Gun Shops?

There is quite a bit of factory ammo on the shelves locally, but I couldn't tell you the prices without going to look. Since I hand load for all of our calibers except .22 LR, I don't look at the prices that much. My BIL says that he's buying 9mm locally for $20 a box. (50 rounds)

    Range Date

I retired 9 years ago, also due to injuries. I wasn't extremely happy about it, but I won't complain I make the most of what I'm dealt. My wife, when we met had never shot a gun. I took her to the range and she shot my 9mm pistol, the next thing she said was next we can buy that purple gun. It...

What does shooting/hunting/reloading do for your mental health?

I agree with Night Rider, however we don't have any terrain like that here. The most peace I gain is with the Word (Bible). Other than the Bible I get much relaxation from reloading, shooting/hunting and even cleaning my firearms.

Illinois could pass the perfect AWB & High-Capacity Magazine ban case for SCOTUS

That's exactly where I and the rest of the Illinois shooting public hope it ends up.

Would you Openly Rock a High Point C9?

I bought two Hi Points years ago and never regretted it. I bought a C9 and a .40 S&W JCP, both are dead on and were out of the box. They are heavy, but for me they are a joy to shoot. After the first 200-300 rounds they will eat anything you feed them with no hiccups. WWB ammo was glitchy for...

Seating depth was all over the place

Are your cases trimmed to the same length? I have the Lee breech lock press, was my first press. I had the same kind of problem in the beginning but I bought my trim tools and trimmed all of my cases and it fixed the problem.

    Old Question - New Poll

Once in awhile it starts out feeling like work, but then I get in the groove and the satisfaction comes back and I end up loading more than I planned. I guess it's not just a hobby but really soothing. No TV, music or phone, peace and quiet and my reloading routine, I love it.

How many have mentored a prospective reloader that actually took up the hobby?

I have a friend who works part time at Wally World who hand loads for 223/5.56mm. He and I helped another part timer out there to get started. So I guess I'm credited with an assist. Although, another friend is coming over to get reacquainted with hand loading, but he used to hand load so I'm...

    SCCY pistols, anyone?

WE have 2, mine and my wifes. We haven't had any problems with them, they shoot well and I can maintain good accuracy at 5, 7 and 10 yards. A better note is that my wife, who has a bit of trouble with maintaining accuracy with any pistol due to affects from old injuries, can maintain good...

Do you wear hearing protection when hunting?

I actually did use foam disposable ear plugs this year. I don't wear a face mask, but I can just roll my stocking hat up to insert the earplugs, it worked very well. This year was the first time I tried it.

Bought my first Hi Point. What should I know?

I've had two and I like them. These are not carry pistols, but mine were dead on right out of the box. As for the magazines you can adjust the feed lips yourself, I did, it's not hard at all. There is a Hi-Point forum on the interweb, you can get all of your questions answered there. These guys...

Only buying 50 round boxes of hollow points from here on out

I have only ever bought one 20 round box of defense ammo, and that was for comparison. I have bought some 50 round boxes of FMJ for target use but that was when prices were very reasonable. Everything else we shoot is either my cast reloads or jacketed hollow points I reloaded. I found a great...

Seeing a little improvement in availability

I check our LGS online a couple times a week and they have more powder than before, but not back to pre-virus times. But still no primers. Still I am hopeful hearing of more metropolitan areas having large amounts of primer coming back.

    That Dreaded Carbon Ring

I have seen some threads elsewhere about cleaning frequency. A lot of people wait and clean after a high number of rounds, I clean after every range trip and it's not a quick clean and done. I run a solvent patch through including the chamber and let it soak over night before using bore brushes...

Can you substitute same weight bullets in load data?

I agree with some above, I have substituted bullet styles. And I too begin with start loads and do a ladder test. I won't go into great detail but my ladder tests include 3 to 5 charges in .5 grain increments, with 5 rounds in each charge weight. In times of low component levels 3 rounds in each...

Do you deer hunt all day or mornings and evenings?

I have always hunted til about lunch then we leave our stands, go have lunch as close as possible, then come back and hunt the afternoon/evening. If I had to travel a good distance to hunt I'd bring a sandwich or some finger food that less scent heavy and stay all day. I haven't had a place to...
