    Favorite .224?

The first barrel died at around 1,300 rounds due to youthful enthusiasm and lack of PROPER cleaning. The rest have made it to around 2,500 rounds before accuracy fell off, that was with care paid to barrel heat and no long strings of fire. The problem is always erosion of the leade to the point...

    Favorite .224?

In 1975 I became very interested in varmint hunting in SW Idaho. Only thing I could afford at the time was a Savage 340 in .222, it served me well for about a year. I was in The Outdoorsman in Boise picking up some reloading supplies and wandered over to the rifle counter and noticed a heavy...

    Favorite 8mm?

Case capacity is a little less. I've loaded for both, but don't recall the difference. With 200 gr. Speer Hotcore bullets the velocity difference was a little over 75 fps. I was loading for a friend's 325 at the time and was surprised by the small difference.

In my experience with the Grendel the Elander mags work fine, the ASC mags gave me the exact same problem.

Savage 110 with integral scope mount bases questionable performance?

Mathew Clark... The problem with the integral mounts wasn't from the action heating from being fired, it was from the factory heat treatment causing some of the actions to distort. Most were caught by QC and never left the factory, some did make it to the consumer causing the issues you read...

Poll: How long have you been reloading?

I started in 1972. Bought a RCBS JR. press, Ohaus scale, .270 dies and a Hodgdon manual. Read the manual front to back then bought powder, bullets, primers and got started, been loading ever since. Still have and use the press, scale, dies and manual. Now all my loading gear barley fit in a 12'...

Rifles and Rifle Cartridges That Go Together!

When I was in my teens a lot of surplus '98 Mausers were available from $35 to $85 depending on grade. I lived in Idaho at the time and many of these were re-chambered to 8mm-06 for cheap hunting rifles. To me when I hear '98 Mauser I immediately think 8mm-06.

    Bear Creek Arsenal

I have used 5 of their uppers 5.56, .223 Wylde, 6.5 Grendel, 450 Bushmaster & 350 Legend. They all, surprisingly, shoot moa or better, the . 223 Wylde shoots . 5 to . 6 consistently. The only problems I've ran into are the 1st gen side charger retaining bolt would come loose (6.5 Gr) which...

Calibers you have not bought factory new

Started reloading in 1972, since then I have bought 1 box of .270 Winchester to get brass to reload. I bought 3 boxes of factory rounds for the 350 Legend due to dies not yet available at the time. I load for the following: .220 Swift, .223Rem., .222Rem., .38Spcl., 9MM Luger, .380 Auto...

2 stage or drop in trigger

I too use the Rise Armament triggers (3.5 lb). I bought one because I was so disappointed in the trigger in my first build that something had to change. I picked one up for less than $100 and really liked it. I bought 2 more on sale for a couple other builds and so far I can't say anything bad...

    Pillars for bedding

I use lamp shade ferrules. You can pick them up at most any hardware store in the lighting section. I cut/grind them to the correct length and contour. They can be had in aluminum, brass and steel in various lengths and diameters. I use the steel only.
