    Pietta Shooter's Model stripped threads

I stripped the threads in one of the nipple holes on my Pietta "Shooter's Model" 1858 Remington revolver cylinder. The nipples are apparently harder metal than the cylinder because the threads on the nipple seem unharmed. According to what I see on Track of The Wolf the Pietta nipples have a...

    T/C Hawken trigger guard replacement?

I have a T/C Hawken .45 cal that was a kit gun. I am not fond of the trigger guard shape. Are there any other trigger guards that are a drop in fit to the T/C Hawken? Something not quite so fancey.

    Is a .38 Special S&W 686 possible?

I have a recently manufactured Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Magnum with 6" barrel. It is a great gun but I hardly ever shoot .357 Magnum. Mostly I shoot .38 Special at paper or steel targets. Does anybody know if it is possible to get a .38 Special cylinder for it? Would the S&W shop do it? Are there...

Redding Profile Crimp Die and .44-40

I made about 60 rounds of .44-40 reloads and even though I made a dummy round that chambered just fine, and I also checked the first several live rounds and they chambered fine, in the end I had about 20 rounds that would not chamber. I am assuming it was a crimping issue and I wrinkled the case...

    S&W 686 vs. 686 Plus

The local gun shops have some new S&W revolvers. Is there any reason, besides the extra shot, to prefer the 686 Plus seven-shot revolver over the regular 686 six-shot revolver? I am kinda liking the six-shot a little better. There is a bit more meat between the chambers. Plus I am just used to...

    Stevens 311 D

A local gun shop has a Stevens Arms Co. 311 D double barrel 12 Guage shotgun. It has a color case frame that looks like tiger stripes and a wood stock that might be beech. I could not find any serial number on it. Are these good guns in terms of function and durability? Given that it...

    Smoothbore revolver question

Would it be feasible to make a smooth bore barrel for a cap n' ball revolver so it could be used with shot? Would such a gun be effective for small game and pest control?

    Winchester Model 94 forearm

I have a 1956 Winchester Model 94 .32WS that the forearm is a little loose. It was really loose because the front barrel band and barrel band screw threads were stripped. I replaced the band and the screw and it's a lot better but still not right. Are there any tricks I can use to tighten it up?

Looking to develop accurate load for a Uberti Flattop Target .44-40

I am trying to find an accurate load for a Uberti Flattop Target .44-40 single action revolver with a 7 1/2" barrel. Not too concerned with velocity, just trying to find the most accurate load possible. I have access to the following powders, which one would you recommend? PS. I would be happy...

Smith & Wesson 34-1 at LGS

I saw a gun today, it was a Smith & Wesson Model 34-1 .22lr. I have mostly reproduction Colt style single action revolvers, mostly percussion and a few cartridge. I know nothing about double action revolvers or S&W's except that this was a neat little gun. I have looked up prices and I think the...

New primers in stock at LGS

A local gun shop had some CCI Magnum Small Rifle Primers No. 450 in stock. Can these be used instead of small pistol primers? I currently use CCI Small Pistol Primers No. 500 for .32-20 smokeless loads in a Uberti single action revolver as well as black powder loads in an old Colt Bisley. I was...

    Neat Flask

This would be a really neat flask for the field. It has the regular powder chamber plus a chamber for balls and what's really neat, a threaded container on the base for caps. Has anybody ever made a repro of this type of flask? POCKET POWDER FLASK WITH PERCUSSION CAP MAGAZINE — Horse Soldier

    Marlin .45-70 shallow rifling

The other day I was looking at a new Marlin .45-70. It's new but the gun seller said it has actually been in the store for a year or two. I looked at the bore and it did not look quite right. Today I went back and looked at it more carefully. I wiped the dust out of the first two inches of the...

Headspace in old Winchesters vs. old Marlins

A brief history. A while ago my Grandpa gave me an antique Winchester 1894 Sporting Rifle .38-55 which I shot with black powder loads and the primers backed out. A while after that I bought a 1956 made Winchester 94 Carbine .32 Win Special which I shot with factory smokeless loads and primers...

    Gas check sizes

I am going to start casting bullets and reloading for a Winchester Model 94 in .32 Win Spec and an Argentine Mauser in 7.65 x 53. I have the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th Edition and I see that these take gas check bullets but I don't see which sizes. What size or sizes of gas checks should I...

    Winchester 1894 .38-55 headspace

I was given a Winchester Model 1894 Sporting Rifle .38-55 that was made in 1894 or '95. It has been refinished. I know it's black powder only, I made a few bp rounds, shot about 9 of them and some of the primers backed out. I also checked it with the method where you insert a spent primer into a...

What do you make of this 1860 Army?

Seller says it was made in 1957. I think that's got to be a mistake. I think the first mass produced repros didn't start until 1958 or '59 when Gregorelli & Uberti introduced the 1851 Navy and the Griswold & Gunnison .36 caliber revolvers. This particular revolver looks to be a Replica Arms...
