    Split case diagnostic

hello. I have recently built a Mosin Nagant rifle. I acquired a Russian Mosin M44, made in 1944, that had been stripped of everything except the sights. All I was given was a barreled receiver (barrel and receiver are both date stamped 1944 and bear the same factory mark) and stock. Being that...

    Barrel Bulge

its close enough to the muzzle that i can feel the area with my finger. If there is a void in the bulge area, it would take a micrometer to see it. I am no longer worried about anything becoming logged. Again, I'm not saying its going to be used. I don't think it wise to use this barrel. Just...

    Barrel Bulge

No your 100% right, why risk it. Its a Mossberg 500 barrel 18.5 in from the factory. The bulge is just low enough to make cutting it not a good idea. In the end its not wise to use it but is there real immediate danger in doing so?

    Ruger LCP .380

The LCP is a great back up. If you are on a budget get the cheaper one. But to the point of the post. There are many options and opinions to be had. Handle some guns and see what feels good in your hand. The LCP great to carry, a handful to shoot. If this is your first conceal carry handgun I...

    Barrel Bulge

How dangerous is shooting a 12 gauge shotgun with a slight bulge close to the muzzle? I understand the why risk it point but as long as i shoot lead bird shot I cant see any real danger, besides maybe the wad getting stuck but all the pressure will be able to escape. The possibility seems slim...

Hope that helps. Loading pictures is much easier now than when I first joined. Had I known I would have loaded pictures to begin with. Lol

Winchester 1894 receiver and 64 barrel

If 30-30 was the most available that would be weird they would change to a different caliber but since the 25-35 uses the same case(correct me if I'm wrong, it's what I was told and read the 25-35 was based on the 30/30 case) maybe he modified 30-30 ammo to make 25-35. But that's a question for...

Winchester 1894 receiver and 64 barrel

It is the old straight style. My Winchester book is just a little hand book that gives serial number/ manufacturer date ranges. I tried to get the forend off with no luck. I can't get it to slide forward enough to come out of the grooves from the receiver. It hits a piece of metal the forend...

Winchester 1894 receiver and 64 barrel

Yeah I told him the value was now in it being a shooter and no longer a collectable. Thank you for the barrel dating info! That's exactly the information I need. He wants to know more about the rifle and all I could do was dash his hopes of a pay day and that it's a Frankenstein. Lol

Winchester 1894 receiver and 64 barrel

Thank you for the input. Everything looks really well done and on the surface looks good to go. And pictures are for those who can offer useable information but need a visual to do so, sorry.

Winchester 1894 receiver and 64 barrel

so a customer came into my shop with what he thought a very valuable rifle. A Winchester 1894 made in 1911-1912 chambered in 25-35. However, the barrel is marked model 64. From what my Winchester book says the model 64 wasn't started until 1933 (It has been a couple days since I looked it up so...

    CCW/OC Practicality of 3" vs 1.87" LCR?

If you are going to keep the glock for everyday carry, I would go with the longer barrel LCR. The longer the round stays in the barrel the better it will perform ballistically. The longer sight radius will make it slightly more accurate. If you are trading in the glock for a LCR the shorter...

Ruger LCR 357 shooting low, why?

The lighter the bullet, the lower the point of impact will be. It's going to sting but shoot some 180 357 mag rounds from a rest and see where it hits. You can also try some 38 spl Remington 158 grn +p non jacketed HP rounds. Filing the front sight is an option... Lowering the front sight will...

    Ruger SP101 22 hammer?

I agree with medwheeler. I work at a gun store and have noticed that same issue with 22 revolvers. I think they are extra stiff to ensure enough force and pressure is delivered for the chemical reaction to take place. Hit up some gun stores that have a SP101 in 22 and compare the hammer. I"m...

Picked up a Colt Police Positive tonight

That is a beautiful old colt you have. I own a pre war one just like yours with a standard 4" barrel. It breaks my heart to hear you say you want to cut the barrel and redo the finish. Sell the gun to someone who loves it for what it is and use the money to buy what you are looking for. The gun...
