Can a bad trigger help you be a better shooter?

IMO, with a new shooter a bad trigger will make the shooter develop bad habits like jerking the trigger. A light, crisp trigger will break easily, reinforcing the mechanics of a good trigger squeeze. In no circumstance would I think that a heavy or mushy trigger as helping to make a shooter better.

Tell me why I shouldn’t get a Browning BLR in .308.

I have a BLR in .243 circa 1971 and my BIL has a .308 circa 1971 that we inherited from my step-father. They are a little heavy for a lever action but balance well. As mentioned the trigger isn't light but it is manageable for a hunting rifle trigger. I would never disassemble the action...

how did it start for you?

Yeah this and Batman were my favorites. For my seventh birthday my parents had a portrait picture made of me in a toy helmet, green bomber jacket, and toy submachinegun. It was somewhat prophetic.

how did it start for you?

My Dad started taking me squirrel hunting with him when I was five. My Dad was a LEO so I was around firearms all my life. I did have toy guns and later firearms and knew the difference.

    Beloved 30-06 Anyone?

I have a couple. An old Rem. 742 circa 1971 in 30-06. That one was my Dad's that I inherited in 1996 when he died. I bought one of my own in 1976 and sold it a few years later. In the interim I had a BAR in 7mm RM. I shot a lot of deer with a 30-06 Rem 742. I also have a Mossberg 4x4 in 30-06...

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

We didn't have that but I got an "Expert" badge with M-16A1 in Army BCT. I failed to qualify "Expert" with my personal weapon twice in 17 years of active duty/NG/USAR service. First was as a Rifle Company Commander with the M-1911 issued to me. The one I was issued probably went through WWII...

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

Shooting a tie for high .22 rifle score at Boy Scout Summer Camp in 1971. I had usually shot circles around other kids and adults in informal competitions before that but I met my match at Summer Camp. I earned my Rifle and Shotgun merit badge.

I'm not a criminal because I was only convicted three times? I'm paraphrasing but that is how it comes across to me.

Over heard at a local gun range.

I accumulated ammo over the years when I was working in anticipation of retiring. Figured after I retired I would have less income to buy ammo. Now that I'm retired, while I have the time, health issues have limited my range time but my intention is to shoot more this year.

JM Marlin 336. Am I Out of Touch?

I'm glad I bought my son's 336 back in 2016 for $275. It was in pretty good condition. I re-finished the stock before I gave it to him. It's a 1971 and shoots sub MOA groups at a 100 yards just like my 1971 336. I told him if he ever wants to sell it I will buy it back.

    308 Hunting ammo for AR10?

I have only shot one deer with my PA10 and it was with Federal Premium w 168 gr Berger Hybrid Hunter bullets. Perfectly placed shot but no blood trail. I'm using Barnes Vortex w 168 gr TTSX now but still experimenting with other loads.
