A Photo Essay about Merwin and Hulbert Revolvers

Lol, well we may never know then :) Good news is, I was playing around with the arbor and if a tighten it, the wiggle I mentioned earlier goes down to about zero :)

A Photo Essay about Merwin and Hulbert Revolvers

Driftwood, I've followed your posts in other conversations about the MH and the black powder vs smokeless etc. The MH that you have that had the blown cylinder, wasn't that caused with a black powder cartridge (I thought I read that in another post)? If so, what happened, why did it blow with...

A Photo Essay about Merwin and Hulbert Revolvers

The tightest barrel is the 3.5", then the 2.5" (odd numbered) then the 5.5" I would say that gun has been used (not abused) and would bet that over the course of the last 130 yrs, plenty of smokeless rounds have passed through it and perhaps loosened the locks just a tad. Being that this is...

By wiggle, I mean if you hold the gun grip and the barrel, you are able to move the barrel side to side. I would say that you could call you it rotational as you stated.

Cool, thank you for that. My arbor pin has just a tad of a wiggle and was hoping that there might be a way to snug it up. I've had my 38 looked at by a gunsmith and he states that it is safe to shoot. I find that each of the barrels have a little wiggle to them, the longest barrel with the most...

A Photo Essay about Merwin and Hulbert Revolvers

Driftwood, do you know how the arbor pin is attached? I've seen some diagrams and part schematics and it looks like it just screws in. What I'm wondering is if there is a locking screw to hold it in place.

A Photo Essay about Merwin and Hulbert Revolvers

From what I've read, there are only a few known examples of all three barrels numbered to the gun. What I'm not sure of is if the larger frame guns had the matching barrel sets or only the smaller calibers. So, based on what Driftwood mentioned earlier in his thread about his not fitting due...

    .38 MH vs .38 S&W cartridge

Driftwood, Thank you SO much for such great pictures and detailed explanation!! Brings me back to my initial thoughts of wanting to pick up this 38 cal that I'm looking at, however black powder is a no-go as I only have access to an indoor range! Would the 38 cal be considered the 'large...

    .38 MH vs .38 S&W cartridge

Driftwood, is that one of your MHs, if so, it looks to be a beauty! It was my understanding the there is a lip in the back of the frame so that as the cylinder turns, the spent shells lip get hooked under the lip in the frame. So when the action is opened, only the rounds that have rotated...

    .38 MH vs .38 S&W cartridge

Hey Gordon, that's the one I'm looking at. Folding hammer and the thick rib down the barrel. Have you had any issues at all?

    .38 MH vs .38 S&W cartridge

Morning all, Happy Thanksgiving!! I know there have been a couple of threads on this however I'm not sure that there was ever any outcome. I'm looking at getting an early Xmas present for myself, a Merwin Hulbert in .38 Cal. Now, what I can tell, the .38 Cal designation on the MH was...

    Issues with Colt clone Bisley

Hi Jim, Yes, it's the wire spring that Wolff makes. They also make a flat spring as well which I could try. I have a Taylor's Smoke Wagon Deluxe which has been tuned by Taylor's with Wolff springs installed an I was trying to replicate that action.

    Issues with Colt clone Bisley

Hello all, I recently purchased a Cimarron Bisley in 45 colt with the 7.5" barrel. I have a feeling that this was a Monday or 5PM Friday gun as I have had all kinds of issues with it. I have fixed most but not sure about this one, hence the post. Using Snap Caps, the gun works flawlessly...
