    New FTR Rifle build advise

Yes, I was referring to factory ammo 175smk, shooting 2750 fps. Thank you for the velocity and accuracy spread headsup. Might very well end up using just about the same fps!

    New FTR Rifle build advise

The factory ammo gives about 2750 fps on most other similar custom rifles. I will add powder to get to 2850 fps or so, subject to accuracy node, and use the same cartridge otherwise. I meant that I will add powder or fps, by top up! Thank you !

    New FTR Rifle build advise

Bart B Thank you. I should have been more specific with my reloading term. I will only 'top up' factory ammo. Tune them to my rifle and my fps requirements. I will not be using fired cases, as of now at least. I will see of I can find base to ogive of different bullets as well as bearing area...

    New FTR Rifle build advise

Bart B Thank you. I think I should have asked for what COAL to provide to gunsmith considering that I will be using -175smk based factory ammo (~2.81", similar to m118 LR) (2750fps on avg from similar setups as mine) -reload factory ammo to 2850 fps plus, subject to accuracy node -and reload...

    New FTR Rifle build advise

While they are allowed, I am restricted by availability being where I am. Even Berger185 juggernauts will be hard to come by, but am hoping they do. 175smk is what is generally available.

@Bart B. Thank you. What throat length would you suggest for the 200/210 Bergers.

    New FTR Rifle build advise

Well, I have selected the Nesika KT repeating action, with a single shot follower. Throat set up for 175smk and 185 berger juggernaut mainly. Lets see how this goes.

    New FTR Rifle build advise

I am planning on a dedicated long range precision rifle, based mostly on F-Class and FTR shooting, and whatever comes along the way in our club matches (we have a 1000 yard range there) or occassional LR shooting events, vaguely based on F-Class moatly. The caliber is 308 (FTR) I plan to...

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

@dh1633pm Some pictures of your 5r would be nice. How do Remington employees view the 5r conpared to the m24?

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

Thats a good idea to add weight. I am glad the Calvin Elite is working out fine. I have read that it is similar to Jewel in dusty environment, gives errors. Its good to know otherwise. I would want my trigger to be at abt 2 lbs, maybe 2.5 lbs. You think the 510 is alright for that or does one...

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

farmerboy Very nice!! Thank you. How does it shoot for you? Is that added weight at the bottom? Its windy and dusty most of the year at my range. People on web suggest against the Calvin Elite trigger. How do you find it?

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

@johnmcl Thank you. I hope to shoot this regularly up to 1000 yards. I am using factory loaded 175 smk that gives avg 2690 fps in two Remington 700p (26") rifles, I have to chrono mine.

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

@Bart B Thank you. I understand. The twist in most Remington 700 308 is 1:12, with 6 grooves I recall, while the 5R milspec (mine) is 1:11.25, and with 5R rifling. So its not a direct comparison. Until I have a chrono, I cannot be sure. Just trying to get some heads up here from guys who have...

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

@farmerboy78 Can you share some pictures? Also, does the 5R in 24" give similar mv as compared to 700 1:12 twist versions in 26" barrels? I dont have access to a chrono till December this year, but need to know if I am losing out on MV vs the 26" versions. I would like to try out some Berger...

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

Thank you for the information Bart.B. Appreciated. Yes, I do realize that I need to improve over my form for a complete set of 20 rounds. And need to invest in the equipment too. The rifle might be quite ok as is, but to seriously compete with top shooters in LR matches here, I need front...

Remington 700 5R Milspec FDE, 308, Review and Range Report

I got myself a Remington 700 5R in 308, FDE. I understand this is a comparatively rare model to get. Below are some pictures with my CZ550 Varmint, which this has replaced at the shooting range for the time being at least. I cleaned after each of...

    CZ 550 trigger wiggle

I adjusted the trigger on CZ 550 varmint for creep (pre-travel) and weight. I have it now set at 2.5lbs at the finger position, a notch under 2 lbs at lowest point of trigger. The pre-travel is bare-minimum. Now it is almost what I would want. With a bit more of practice, I might reduce it a...

CZ 550 Varmint 308 Range Report

I hope it stays that way for this case! Is it important to torque the screws properly, or just getting them real tight good enough? I still need to be more consistent with the basics (cheek weld, shoulder pressure). I was getting group sizes of 10-12" with LC M80 ball at 600 meters. (1.75-2...
