.3006 data for speer 150 btsp needed

Each gun is an entity unto itself. A friend shoots his best groups, sub-inch, in a 7x57 with speers. As far a powder goes someone once said "Load 57-59gns of 4350 and a 165gn bullet. If it dosen't shoot that well you need an exorcist not a gun smith" That is a little hot load for a 165, I use 58...

    Hogs in TX

GO here http://www.texasboars.com/ and be sure to read board andstickys. I consider the best gun, for pigs only not deer, to be a 7x57 using 160gn or a 308 using 180gn either a Hornady I/L or Nosler PT. Anything in this class will do to over 200yds. capt david

    30/06 loads

Just a thought, but why not just hunt with the bts. Unless your hunting sparrows the difference between 1/2 and 0ne inch groups, in the field, is non existant. capt david

Does anyone make this lever action? (a short .44)

I believe that Browning stil makes the Model 92. It's a copy of the Winchester 92, originally designed by Browning. capt david

    Heavy hunter?

We hunt out of stands on senderos alot. Most of my friends use heavy barreled rifles as we walk verry little while hunting that way. a 200yd shot is considered close. When I hunt this way I always take a sporter also incase I need to become mobile. A friend is building a short heavy barreld 257R...

    .308 reloads

My 308 is my loaner/back-up/pig/300ydtarget/etc gun. I use 170gn 30-30 bullets for close stuff and the Hornady SST when shots could be over 150yds. In my experience the SST and BTSP act essentially the same at 308 speeds. The SST shoots a little flatter and is more accurate in my gun. I can't...

rem 700 vls vs ruger m77 mk 2 target

I have owned three VSs and a friend owened a simular Sendero. All have been capable of shooting sub-inch groups using at least some factory loads. These are usually Federal Premium BTs. They were also capable of half-inch groups with reloads. I can't comment on the Ruger. I will certainly...

Suggestions for Rifle and Caliber of good mid-range bolt gun?

I think the perfect sub 300lb game and up to elk in a pinch) is the 7-08. The 260 is a close second. A frriend's son killed a 6x6 elk with his 7x57 Mauser(7-08 twin) at 200yds. It broke a shoulder and was under the skin on the off side. The 7-08 comes into it's own with a 24" barrel in my...

What caliber/ model Rem 700 for deer AND coyotes

In my opinion the 243 should be the mimimum for deer. I know that it has it's devoted followers, but that is my opinion. With good bullets it is adequate, with cheap ones it wiil eventually let you down. I once owned a 26" barrel 25-06 it was a real hummer, but LOUD. I woul get a 260 or 7-08...

    Carry two rifles

I always take two, if my shots may be over 200yds. I 'shoot/hunt' with the heavier one out of the stand. It's simply easier to hold on. The lighter one is for follow up of wounded game or if I decide to move around abit. capt david:)

    Whats yours???

I'm a deer/pig hunter and reloader. I use 165 Partitions. If, as you say, deer/blackbear are your predominant target I'd use that bullet. It opens fast enough for small deer yet still penetrates. I believe that it is the best compromise for all three. If Elk is the predominate I'd use the 180gn...

    Terminal performance 7mm-08 120-130 grain

WYO, yep, prolly the same!! Although I think D/Z is into light and fast while I'm more a Medium/slower fan. I have changed because of the amount of pigs that I shoot. capt david

    Partitions

I live and hunt in Texas. A lage deer here will dress 150lbs, most around a hundred or less. I was/am a big fan of the polytips for deer. In the last 10 years we have become inundated with pigs. Last year I killed 10. I have become a huge fan of the Partitions. They open up rather fast on our...

    Any hunting recommendations for 7mm-08???

Every gun is 'unto it's self' I use Varget and H4350. Both are good and temperature in-sensitive. I use a 7-08 and a 7x57. I have become a believer in the 150gn Nosler Partition. At only 2700fps it is 2" high at 100yds dead on at 200 abd around 8" low at 300. It has more energy at 300 than a...

    Terminal performance 7mm-08 120-130 grain

I am a huge fan of the 7mm. I own a 7x57 commercial 98 and a 26" barrel VLS in 7-08. While I do not personally have any experience with them, the 120BT is said to be made tough enough for deer. Many people, I trust, say that it is tougher than the 140. I believe that the BC matches the .277cal...

.308 ammo - What comes closest to milsurp 7.62x51?

    .257 Roberts +P and 7-08

For years, when I hunted the Terxas Hiill Country, I considered the Roberts AI the perfect deer cartridge up to 200yds or so. Then they came out with +p and I began to reload and no longer saw the need for an AI. Then lots of pigs began showing up and I changed my mind. Shooting deer and pigs I...

2 FN 98 Mauser safeties needed

I think that you and I are the only ones that like those. I am looking for one myself. There is a guy that sells one on Auction Arms or Gumbroker for $25. It's not an original, but one made up. I have'nt tried it but if you do, or find any originals keep me ion mind. capt david :) :) :)
