Is IMR 4350 and Hodgdon 4350 interchangable?

For many years I have used Hodgdon instead of IMR because an old gunsmith told me that H was burn rate stable between lots and IMR was not. I believe Hodgdon owns them both now. What is the difference between them?

I have successfully hunted big game with a Browning BAR for over 40 years. I am at a loss why I have never seen another in the field. Does anyone have any idea why? Cost ? Dependability? Accuracy?
