My CA SIG P238 has a shark fin LCI. Not real great - if I can't see it (in the dark), I have to use my free hand to feel it. Also, the slot milled into the slide for the LCI slightly interferes with cleaning the breech face.
But the LCI of my Interarms Walther PPK/S is excellent. It's a small...
The best thumb safety that I know of is the one on my SIG X-Five. Both detents are crisp, but I can flick the lever to either position without shifting my grip.
My aluminum frame SIG P238 is wholly reliable, and its recoil is much softer than my heavier .380 Interarms Walther PPK/S. Its slide is easy to rack, and it has good sights to boot.
Like zaitcev, I recommend a shoulder rig. Mine is an Alessi Bodyguard (horizontal). My pistol is small, but one of my friends carries a SIG X5 Competition in his Bodyguard. Yes, he's a big guy.
Shooting small… I read that the Olympic air rifle competition (women's event won by a US teen) involved taking out a 1mm dot with a .177 caliber bullet – at 10m, unsupported, iron sights.
I hate the shark fin LCI on CA SIGs. OTOH, the LCI of my Interarms PPK/S is excellent – a small pin that protrudes out the back of the slide, just above the hammer. Its state can be determined by sight or touch. And the BG can't see it.
On the third hand, my CA SIG P238 is a far better pistol...
Yes, ShootingTheBull is "very clear on what works in the short barrels of the micro 380 pistols" – by their criteria. They demand 10" to 18" penetration – probably a reasonable requirement for LEOs that may need barrier penetration. But for likely civilian SD scenarios, I believe that 8"...
A SIG P226 SAO would fill your bill. All metal, and a pretty good trigger out of the box. And a trigger job by Robert Burke, TheSigArmorer, would give you a superb trigger.
My SIG P226 X5 Competition is SAO. Its frame safety is excellent, with crisp, positive detents, yet I can easily move it to SAFE or FIRE positions without shifting my grip.
No, for several reasons:
1. The Mosquito is SA/DA, and I'm a SAO guy.
2. The Mosquito doesn't have click-adjustable sights.
3. I've heard too many bad stories about the Mosquito's reliability, whereas my 87T is very reliable with most all ammo.
4. I already have the 87T.
5. I think my 87T is the...
My philosophy is to have one excellent pistol for each purpose – and I don't define purposes too narrowly:
HD – SIG P226 X5 Comp
CCW – SIG P238
CF target pistol – the same X5
RF target pistol – Beretta 87 Target
So 3 pistols, total. The fewer guns you have, the better you know each of them, and...
