Do the ones with the heaviest pull weight. Don’t go too light on rebound spring. Do you intend to polish the rebound slide and where iit rides in the frame? If so you can go to a 14 pound rebound spring. If not better go with the heaviest you have. The stock spring is 18#
I managed to get out today to shoot the Shield 45. Wow! I can’t believe how little recoil there was. My buddy had his XD Mod2 subcompact 45 along and even though it’s 5 or 6 ounces heavier, it has a sharper recoil than the Shield.
I guess I have been on a holster binge for the past few weeks. I discovered a new source with many reasonable prices. It is Etsy.com
It started with me buying a used Shield 45 on Gunbroker. Figured I would need a holster so went online shopping. My search results included some on Etsy. I...
They look like the top has been sanded to give a more rounded appearance.
As far as it being a Fitz. I believe that is more of a reference to the style than a claim that it was done by Fitzgerald
I have a thing for L frames. My first S&W, 357 magnum was this no dash 686
Eventually that 1 turned into a few more
Since we are discussing 2 of the best models, I would suggest the vintage model 27’s should be included also. This one is a no dash
Here is the Shield 45 I won on Gunbroker
Took pictures after a good cleaning. It was filthy when I picked it up.
While i was waiting to pick it up I got these.
Well I won a used Shield 45 on Gunbroker earlier today. Got a pretty good deal I think. Paid $261 plus sales tax & $35 shipping. It has both magazines, the box & a crossbreed holster, which I will likely sell. I don’t do well wit inside the waistband carry.
Will see how it compares to my...
I am in the market for a small pistol in 45acp. I have pretty much come down to the Shield or XDs. Whichever I get will be used from Gunbroker and if an XDs it will be the Mod 2 version. I am leaning towards the S&W. Anyone have experience with both?
Around here you could find no lock 686’s for between $500 and $600 from 2014 until 2019. Now they are $1000 guns. I bought a no dash , 4 inch 686 in 2014 for $600. Would probably not have paid that but it came with 94 rounds of 357 ammo and 50 of 38 special. No box or anything, just the gun. In...
I don’t often shoot carry guns at 50 yards and beyond. I carry a J frame revolver and regularly shoot it at 35 yards at an 8 by 10 inch steel plate. I’ll hit 3 of 5 on the first cylinder but then can usually hit 5 for 5
I agree with those who said prices peaked about 18 to 24 months ago and have since come down a bit. I was following gunbroker prices on the 3 inch model 625. About 2 years ago they were selling at $1500 and sometimes more. By late 2023 I saw 4, sell for between $1200 and $1300.
S&W made the same setup for the US market. I believe it was for a steel shooting competition with steel pugs, sheep, etc set up at 25,50,75 and 100 yards. The 4 position sight is made so you can zero it at each of those distances. I have seen 686’s and a 586 like that
I bought some about a month ago at the local gun shop. I reload but like to have some aluminum cased ammo on hand for shooting where brass recovery is difficult.
