The Perfect Storm of Various Gun Controversies - if you can bear it.

If 45 acp was enough to win two world wars its good enough for bear. Anything more than 5 shots is a dangerous assault gun. Waddaya need all them bullets for anyhow? Next you'll be wanting double action cuz yer too impatient to cock yer gun between shots. I think the Taurus judge is the...

Swiss K31 and non lead projectiles

Has anyone ever loaded non-lead bullets for their K31? I was thinking of loading some 150gr Hornady GMX in mine but it's my understanding that those bullets like a lot of jump and I know there is not a lot of free bore in K31s so I was curious I'd anyone else had tried it and what kind of results.?

Old timey rifles and "cold bore" shots; thoughts on rifle harmonics

Are you cleaning your guns before your cold bore shots? I've found that a squeaky clean bore can exacerbate the point of impact shift of a cold bore shot.

Old timey rifles and "cold bore" shots; thoughts on rifle harmonics

OK that makes sense. I kinda figured it was a standard issue thing. I always kinda figured the barrel tensioning thing was supposed to make up for the barrel being snug against the wood by the front barrel band cuz its pretty snug on my gun. now that I know its not currently contacting the...

Old timey rifles and "cold bore" shots; thoughts on rifle harmonics

It actually doesn't contact the barrel now, but there is a little scuff mark on the barrel right where it would sit like it was mated up against it at one point.

Old timey rifles and "cold bore" shots; thoughts on rifle harmonics

What's the little chingus in the fore end of the stock if not for putting pressure on the barrel?

Old timey rifles and "cold bore" shots; thoughts on rifle harmonics

So I was shooting my K31 in the snow the other day, the way God intended, doing some load development, and I encountered something I have never actually seen before: actual significant "cold bore" point of impact changes. I was shooting 3 shot groups(cuz I can't afford 10 shot groups) and with...

Hornady Brass Quality control, 7mm Remington Magnum

So I found a YouTube video that explains exactly whats going on with my rifle. You hit the nail on the head Varminterror. I guess its a common problem with Rem 700s with serial numbers starting with 'RR'. Here's the link o the video if anyone's interested: Thanks again for everyone's input

Hornady Brass Quality control, 7mm Remington Magnum

Thanks guys. Remington 700. I think I'll try some other yellow brass, plus I have another batch of Hornadies I can try. If it still sticks I guess its the rifle

Hornady Brass Quality control, 7mm Remington Magnum

When I got my 7mm RM I got a bunch of Hornady brass. I've fired some of them a couple times now and every time, no matter how hot I load them, they stick in the chamber. The bolt turns up just as easy as you could hope for but it can be difficult to pull rearward. There are no pressure signs on...

    Schmidt Rubin K11 restoration/sporterization?

I have been shooting 165 grain Hornadys mostly and I've been shooting at 100 yards. I wasn't even kinda displeased with my groups when I started I was really just happy to be on the paper but as I've gotten better and my groups got tighter I noticed that I was getting those up and down patterns...

    Schmidt Rubin K11 restoration/sporterization?

I am fairly new to guns; I grew up shooting .22s and shotguns but I hadn't shot in years when I bought a K11 from a local gunstore. I bought it because I know those old Swiss rifles are well made and accurate and it was in my price range. And because Grama was from Winterthur and I lived in...
