1958 – Ruger Bearcat Cleaning Advice

I have had in my safe for the past three years my mother-in-laws Ruger Bearcat. I was wanting to take some pictures of it and while the blueing is in good shape, the overall condition is very dull including the brass on the trigger guard. Any suggestions on cleaning it without decreasing the...

    NRA Training Question

After reviewing the threads on the Basic Pistol Class from the NRA, it would seem that it comes down to the instructor being the variable that makes or breaks the class. So I have a question: Has anyone taken the Basic Pistol class from Dick Martin, Clark County Sheriff's Dept. in...

Is the S&W 638 going to go on sale like the 637 and 642?

Bummer I purchased my 637 last spring. It was on sale then as well, out the door price for NIB was $341. tag in the case was $409. I did get a cool S&W tee shirt. Now if Ohio would just pass the CCW bill, I could carry the thing! Does shoot great out to about 15 yds. Minimal kick when...

    1911 Magazines

Gov Issue works for me I picked up four – 7 rounders from the surplus bin at the last gun show for $5 a piece. Shot so well, I retired the two factory mags from my SA. No more FTF with these! Before that I was squeezing the gun so hard 'cuz everyone said “limp wrist†hold it tighter...

    How to aim with bi-focals?

I'm 41 and had cataract surgery two years ago – nothing seems to work. Since my eyes don't 'focus' any longer I have been looking for that magic solution that just doesn't seem to be there. I use bi-focals and carefully line up gun to target, then slightly tip my head up and use the power...

Garrettwc, I unload, due to living in Ohio where we aren't allowed to carry concealed or have a loaded weapon anywhere in a car. Ammo and Gun must both be locked and away from each other. I figure a 30 second drive from the parking lot to the hotel parking lot shouldn't cause a problem...

I'm back safe and sound I have now returned from my business trip. Nothing went wrong, I did feel a little uneasy in and around the hotel. I now understand what is meant by “your senses on high alert.†I'll outline my normal routine and you can grade, give pointers or have a good gut...

    Idiot carrying a knife.

Paul, I have been to TDI for handgun one training. I was scheduled twice for handgun two and my employer scheduled me to work both weekends. Now I will have to wait till next year. All vacation days are used up :-( Yeah, weekends count against vacation. They're a great group and I learned...

    Idiot carrying a knife.

I have been carrying a pocket knife for as long as I can remember. My grandfather started giving them (the Case XX type) to me around eight years-old. Started in with lock blades around fifteen and now I have two Benchmade (mini griptilian and gent's folder both axis locks) pocket knives – in...

Nightsweats, Thanks for the response and welcome to the board. From the responses, I should be taking additional precautions when I travel. So I have gathered a few more items and placed them in a bag (thin laptop shoulder type) for travel. It looks innocent enough. As a side note, I...

Actually that has changed as well. We now are required to drive to anywhere within 500 miles. So I will be in a car. Sorry I left that out of the original post. The company is in a save-money-at-all-cost mode. That will change when the female VP travels, until then I would rather be safe...

Looking for Combo pistol grip/shoulder stock

Mine came with a pistol grip when purchased (Model is a Mossberg Cruiser: 8+1 capacity, 20 in barrel, heat shield, however most people know it as a Persuader) – no shoulder stock. I borrowed a shoulder stock from a buddy who's SG came with both. He now wants the shoulder stock back, so I am...

Looking for Combo pistol grip/shoulder stock

I have seen several TV shows (movies) that have a shotgun with a combo pistol grip/shoulder stock. Yet, I seem to be unable to find one for a Mossberg 500. Maybe I'm just calling it the wrong thing because searching on the internet is turning up nothing. I know someone here will know what to...

    Business Travel

I have a question for those that do a bit of business travel. I will be traveling for my company in a few weeks to a place that I don't know well and being put up at an out of the way (Cheap!) hotel/motel. I am thinking of having something on the night-stand when I am in for the night. My...

Question on loading a Mossberg 500

Thanks guys! I carefully spent some time this morning and found the nine inch wooden dowel and ended up breaking the shotgun completely down to get it out. (Just couldn't get it to line up with the bolt hole in the end of the magazine.) Yes indeed it holds 8+1 now. Thanks again for all of...

Question on loading a Mossberg 500

Question on loading a Mossberg 500 I purchased a M500 Persuader 20" that is supposed to hold 8 x 2.75" rounds according to CDNN.* Simple math says 8 x 2.75 = 22 inches. If you place the first round in the chamber, then 7x2.75 = 19.25 leaving .75 or less for the entire spring works, etc...

Scandium?? No - thank - you!!

I guess I can jump in on this one. I have an S&W 386 PD (7-shot, K-frame). Before purchasing it, I shot some of the J-frame Scandium lightweights – Ouch even with .38 special wadcutters. For me the problem wasn’t the .38/.357 difference – it was the grip! A J-frame is just too small for...
