Just goes to show what a decent camera set up and a firearm can do. The homeowner seemed very level headed as well thankfully.
I wonder what possessed the intruder though, obviously booze or drugs of some sort but he seemed very keen on that property.

Excellent post. In addition, regarding dirty tactics; they’ll need a delivery system. Ie, if you can’t punch someone in the face with a boxing glove, you won’t be able to flick someone in the eye. If you can’t grapple to a decent enough level to RNC someone you probably won’t be able...
I know that military analogies aren’t always appropriate for civilian SD but regarding shot placement I think there are lessons to be learned and it’s certainly cemented my belief in aiming for COM.
Firstly, look to high-level units for their CQB drills. Yes the setting is very different from...
I think she did really well. Tap and rack is obviously a basic drill but under pressure even the basics can vanish or be fumbled, particularly when it’s a mortal threat. Well done.
It’s defiantly one of the best weapon videos going at the moment. It’s a shame it starts from the guard but all the same it’s a good example of how tricky it is trying to work from both angles with a knife or firearm.
It also goes to show that physicality can and will play a huge part in SD...
That’s a very good point. There won’t be much shooting from retention if you can’t get hold of your own pistol and the criminal can. Rather than be a deterrent, an open carry can be attractive to a stronger and confident criminal that’s competent with fighting that could attack you simply to...
-Bad guys are dumb-
This is a huge assumption and can lead to a dangerous underestimation of a threat. Sure lots of criminals are dumb but some aren’t and will plan ahead for a citizen that is prepared to defend themselves.
I agree to an extent. If I’m going to be trained in something where my life might depend on it, I want the instructor to have some first hand knowledge of it, I totally get this. However having been in a gun fight wether it’s military, Leo or SD/HD based doesn’t guarantee that they would make...
Obviously situational awareness and shooting from retention are key but the OP mentions that the attacker already has hands on the pistol so that takes things into that weird, ill-defined realm where firearms defence meets martial arts/combat sports/H2H.
If this happens then we’ve basically...
Don’t consider the long term loss but the immediate, short term loss that would occur if you opened fire indoors.
You’d lose part or most of your hearing straight away and that would be critical if you’re A) trying to listen for the intruder and B) trying to communicate with your family.
I...
I think we’re all on the same page one way or the other.
It’s not a false dichotomy. Become proficient with both as often the situataion will dictate which one you’ll need.
Dealing with the adrenaline dump and shooting effectively under stress are key things to deal with in regards to self defence when firearms.
Obviously time spent on the range honing basic marksmanship principles is crucial, it cannot be denied; but that basic marksmanship will erode badly...
Personally I don't see a correlation between martial arts and shooting, not physically anyway. Good fighters can make for poor shots and vice versa.
Balance could be a bonus but that could be brought about by yoga or climbing or a similar core focused sport.
I believe there could be an...
BJJ is evidently one of the best defensive arts around, take a look through YouTube or any of the other streaming sites and you'll see BJJ practitioners of all levels taking people apart in all sorts of situations. It's competitive focus on beating fully resisting opponents maintains it as one...
Lol, really? What are you going to do while you're waiting for the ambulance with a gunshot wound to yourself or your friend or family member, stuff it with band aids? The first ten minutes is key to surviving anything like that and if you're not prepared for it then good luck.
Also if you've...
This. If going down the 'drawn and dropped the guy' route, unless I've missed something in an earlier post; we don't know of the shooters condition apart from that he's down.
I'd continue towards him with my weapon up and basically clear his position, make sure he's dead or dying or at least...
If you're carrying a firearm for whatever reason, hunting, SD, ranges etc you might as well carry a trauma kit for GSW's. A basic kit could include:
1x TQ
1x Field Dressing
1x Chest seal
1x Tough cut scissors.
Plus Celox if you fancy it.
None of this is hugely expensive and can all pack down...
Slightly off-topic but good shout on the Speed Cross shoes. They're probably the best bit of footwear I've ever bought, don't need breaking in and have amazing grip.
