    Rogers and Spencer's revolvers

If you have the opportunity to obtain any spare parts better do so. Just in case as no one seems to have any available. That's the only thing stopping me from using mine more often. I have a few, love them, every one is accurate and I never understood why some people disparage them. Yes the...

The "BABY BEAST" says: "Happy New Year to you all". See ya in 2024

Ugly Sauce, that's what I call a New Years celebration! I'd be doing something similar if it wasn't raining here. My New Years resolution is to burn more black powder than last year.

Why 2F Instead of 3F - BP Handgun Cartridges

Then Desperado Cowboy bullets used to come with a relatively small capacity lube groove. If that design hasn't changed that lack of lube would contribute to the hard fouling you encountered.

    ASM kit gun project

I had a ASM 51 Navy some years ago and wanted to change out the mainspring. Every spring I tried was shorter than the original and I finally gave up and put the original back in.

Epoxy or Liquid Nails to Glue Replacement Grip on 1851 Navy

I have used JB Weld as an epoxy several times on grip projects like you mentioned and also vaseline as a release agent. I never ran into any problems.

Large Pistol Primers for BP Loads

Having subscribed to "The Blackpowder Cartridge News" since the beginning I have read warnings that using pistol primers in rifle cases can cause breechface damage. Since the pistol primers are shorter in length than rifle primers, I believe the idea was that upon firing the short primers begin...

    Shout Out To 45 Dragoon

I'll have to say thanks as well, Mike. Reading your solutions to peoples problems has helped me solve several dilemmas of my own over the years.

Why 2F Instead of 3F - BP Handgun Cartridges

A few simple guidelines might help: * size bullets to chamber mouth dimensions--hopefully this is close to barrel groove diameter *bullets should be relatively soft, starting at pure lead to 1/20 tin lead or close *bullets should have generous grease groove capacity * lube should be black...

    Good Dog horn

Like the "good dog" motif as it always brings back fond memories of my buddies who have passed on.

    Another Black Powder Cartridge Day

Dave T, every time I shoot my black powder loads during the heat of the summer I notice the barrel fouling is always harder and I'm sure less moist. The humidity can be quite high here but that doesn't seem to help keep the fouling moist when temperatures are 90s+. Since you are in AZ I imagine...

    Black Powder Cartridge Range Day

Ugly Sauce, I feel the same about the pressures exhibited by the "substitute" black powders, but I probably know even less than you! As far as the old hammer guns, I just acquired an old Hopkins & Allan Model 100 hammer gun. After attention from a good gunsmith that gun is now doing exemplar(but...

    Black Powder Cartridge Range Day

Just a final thought. In David Chicoine's excellent book "Gunsmithing Guns of the Old West" the author mentions he was one of only a handful of people working the old S&W breaktops, the ones made before smokeless powder. After repair work he would admonish the owner to use black powder only. I...

    Black Powder Cartridge Range Day

How much shooting do you intend in one session? I have been loading 32 S&W and 38 S&W for several years using either Swiss 3F or Olde Enysford 3F in S&W breaktops. I usually order a mold for any caliber I own, but with these two I just order commercial bullets and remove existing lube and...

    Star cappers - where?

I am a fan of those type of cappers as I found them easier and quicker to use at a Cowboy Shoot. They are also easier, for me at least, to initially load with caps. The first ones I got were listed in one of Mike Beliveau's videos and I believe came from Sweden. Very nice quality.

My first chainfire and sloppy Pietta quality control.

I recently measured some Uberti 36 Navy cylinders as I was trying out some long 135gr. heel bullets. Using pin gauges I ran across some pretty consistent numbers. A .372 gauge would just enter the chamber mouth and a .366 gauge would bottom out.

What supplies will I need to shoot?

I made two nipple wrenches from Sears(Craftsman) 1/4" deep well sockets a few years ago. I obtained a percussion pistol that the nipples were badly frozen in place. I got all but two out and tried using a breaker bar and actually bent the mouth of the socket. Can't blame the Craftsman socket as...

What supplies will I need to shoot?

You will eventually need(real soon) a nipple wrench. The Ted Cash ratcheting one is very good and check out The Possible Shop for other good ones.

    Paper on the line again

I do encounter that "ring" of paper at the bottom of the chamber, but only occasionally. More often I find a bit of paper adhered to the cylinder wall. My difference may lie in the fact I make a straight tube of paper instead of a cone shape like most do. Go back a couple of years on here and...

"Man With No Name" all growd up !!!!

That does give the Dragoons a certain look! Don't know which one I like better, as I am a big fan of the Dragoons in general.

    Paper on the line again

Several years ago I did extensive testing using paper cartridges in both .36 and .44 pistols. I wasn't testing accuracy but rather conditions at a Cowboy Match where time constraints wouldn't allow complete cylinder inspection for paper residue after firing. The test was conducted over four days...
