Any opinions on the .30 Super Carry cartridge

An answer to a question nobody was asking. Seems to be close to the low end 9mm and does give some additional capacity, but it really does not do anything that 9mm doesn't do. And this is coming from someone who shoots and reloads for 357 Sig and 6.5 Grendel, so I don't have an issue with...

    RMR'S 69 grain .224 bullets.

They shoot great out of my 1/7 twist barrel. Have not used them for hunting, but I don't see why they would not work on hogs or even a small deer at reasonable ranges.

Is my old 9mm brass the problem here?

Going to throw this out there. I did see where you were going to get another scale. In the mean time, if you have varying weight bullets, try putting them on the scale and see if they are way off or weighting something else that you KNOW the weight of. Might give you an idea of whether the scale...

    2023 Hunting Picture Thread

Got this one Saturday right at sunset. Went up to AL for opening day of gun season, and for 3 days this was the ONLY deer we saw the whole time.

    Pay it Forward in Reloading

I have a bag of 223/5.56 brass that is trimmed shorter than 1.75 (1.73 to 1.74). Probably about 300 pieces of various headstamps. Free to anyone who can use it in the Brooksville/Tampa FL area. I live in Brooksville, but I travel to Lutz/Land O Lakes and Tampa at least once a week. Willing to...

Durability of older Colt .357 Magnums

I have a colt 3-5-7 that was my father's. He shot it a fair amount, but I do not know the round count. It is still very accurate with pretty much anything I put through it. That being said, I do not put a lot of full power magnum loads through it simply for the fact that parts are expensive and...

Is the 9 mm a pain to reload for?

I reload more 9mm than any other caliber with the exception of 223.5.56 and it is no more difficult than 40 S&W or 38/357. Now, 357 Sig can be a bit of a pain, but 9mm is really pretty easy. Just stay within the published data, and watch out for stepped cases, which can cause high pressure with...

    Best .38 Special Handloads

I have a Clays load with a 148 grain plated wad cutter that is very accurate in both my 357's (A Ruger and a Colt). Not in the shop right now, but if memory serves, it's 2.5 grains of Clays with a CCI-500 primer. At 7-10 yards, if I do my part, it will shoot practically in one hole....I rarely...

    2024! The Apocalypse Is Near!

Rifle - AR15 of some flavor. Abundance of spare parts and accessories available and easy to work on. Pistol/handgun - Ruger Security Six. Mainly because I have one. Flexibility of ammo and it is very stout. Also, 357/38 Special is about as close to an all around pistol caliber as you can get...

First try at 9mm = Fail

On that first load, that is actually toward the top of the ladder as far as the load goes. I show 5.7 grains as the max load on Hodgdon's website. So, there should be plenty of "oomph" to cycle the action. On the last load, I show a max load on a GDHP as 6.4 grains, so if you drop that 10% for...

    Weighing brass?

I weigh mine before and after the powder charge. 1. Weigh case 2. Tare the scale with the case still on it 3. Throw powder charge 4. Put case back on the scale 5. Compare the expected charge to the scale Other than that, I don't worry a whole lot about it.

I find myself with an unopened 4lb container of Titegroup.

I have used it for 9mm and 38/357 (mild to wild - well, a little spicy). Very economical, but watch for double charges. A little goes a long way and too much can make for a very bad day.

Does Anyone Here Still Carry or Shoot DA/SA?

Hunting, I carry either a Colt Model 357 6" or a 4" Security 6 in 357 and occasionally an EAA Witness in 9mm. Backpacking or hiking it is a M&P 40C (or 357 Sig or 9mm - conversion barrels for both). I think it is a good idea to practice with anything you can, but particularly what you plan on...

    PSA 3.5 lb Trigger

Lots of options out there for sure. I think any of these would be worth pursuing. PSA is in my home town, so I wanted to support them.

    PSA 3.5 lb Trigger

Picked up two of these. One for the 223 and one for the Grendel. https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-custom-drop-in-ar-single-stage-drop-in-trigger-curved-bow.html Installed them this evening. Pretty painless process. Only "issue" I ran into is that one of my lowers (Omni Hybrid) already has...

Lee classic cast turret press. Do they ever wear out?

Have lost track of how many rounds I have done through my 4 hole value press (new design) - but certainly over 20k rounds. Got it when they very first came out. I use it to load 357 magnum, 357 sig, 9mm, 40 S&W, and 223. Still going strong with all original parts. So long as you take care of it...

.38 Special- light target loads. Poll........

Try a roll crimp on a few and see if that helps things. @GeoDudeFlorida is giving some good advice above. If the crimp does not do it, I would go ahead and shoot what you have and not worry about it. Only other thing I would add is when trying a new load, just do enough to test initially. That...

Please school me on .38 Special wadcutters consumables

Lots of good advice. Only thing I would add (and sorry if someone else covered this already) is if using HBWC, don't go too low on the powder charge or you can wind up with keyholing because the skirt does not engage the rifling properly. This will also lead to a lot of leading. Bullseye is...
