22LR would be my last choice for home-defense. I have a 10mm pistol with 16 rounds on tap for that. My wife has a 9mm pistol with 17 rounds on tap available.
If .22lr was the only thing I could defend myself with, and I was forced to use it, I would be sure to load it with solid point, 40...
As in, it doesn't have all the plastic parts Ruger started using years back?
Also, as a follow-up, are there any modern rifle makers building 10/22 rifles where all the operational moving parts are steel?

I did, and was not impressed with it. It made little to no difference.
I also bought a Galloway stainless trigger spring rod for my Beretta nano and it actually increased the weight of my trigger.
I'm not a big fan of Galloway's stuff.
Kahr used to have really nice triggers. They were long, but usually quite smooth and light enough to make them very easy shooters out of the box. That isn't so anymore. They've upped the weights on the triggers the last few years capitulating to political pressure from their manufacturing state...
Ruger has a 10mm 1911 these days.
One thing about the 10mm auto cartridge: Most manufacturors are making them underpowered, more like a .40 S&W. If you want a proper loaded 10mm cartridge, you can start with Sig and go boutique from there (underwood, buffalo bore).
The price difference in the offerings from Keltec, Taurus, and Canik, among others in their class, is not worth the difference. Especially when you can just spend a little bit more and get yourself a Ruger and enjoy and trust your weapon.
If money is no object, there are plenty of quality...
