Im glad the hornady one worked out for ya. I have both the daa and the hornady. Both work well but i think the daa one is simplier so im still curious to the problem you were having with it
As an example my three tests of the fmj;s at 5.0g
Test 1
Group 1 - 1.2
Group 2 - 1.0
Tst1 Avg- 1.1
Test 2
Group 1 - 0.9
Group 2 - 0.9
Tst2 Avg- 0.9
Test 3
Group 1 - 1.2
Group 2 - 1.1
Tst2 Avg- 1.2
Overall Average: 1"
I agree that there is some variance to be expected...
Haaa I was just thinking about this thread. My ransom rest testing is at 25 yards. For each test I load 20 rounds of each charge weight and shoot two 10 round shot groups. I load all in 0.1g increments though will test shoot in 0.2g increments till I narrow down whats working best.
Going...
Again nothing inconsistent about it. Ive run 6 full testing days of it. Im consistently getting best results with it at 5g.
Im averaging 0.9" 10 round groups w the hap's/xtps and 0.1" groups with the fmj.
I wouldn't say there was inconsistency here just a difference between powders. The one seems to have better results running hot and the other much lower
What part of the bullet is getting caught up on the gauge? Im wondering if perhaps your depriming/resizing die needs to be re-adjusted? Another thought and previous problem I was having when I first started using the DAA 2in1 die was that I was belling it too much. Only bell enough that the MBF...
Over the last half year Ive been doing a lot of ransom rest testing and getting analytical in what works the best. So far Ive tested 5-6 different types of powder; each multiple times with different factors. Today I happened to make up a summary page of all tests and ordered by Best to Worst so...
I have ransom rest tested both of these powders multiple times and I agree I get a higher velocity from CFE Pistol compared to Power Pistol at the same charge weights. With that said though the my optimal group results from each differed largely. PP seemed to do best w a charge of 5.8 - 5.9g for...
I tested yesterday using charge weights from 4.5g to 4.9g across 3 projectile types of Hornady 115 FMJ's, HAP's and XTP's. Going lower in charge weight didnt provide any new optimal results. 5.0g remained the best for me across all three bullet types. Note though my testing was with 115's not...
I have tested WSF. On my phone at the moment but i can provide the full details later. WSF was sorta the opposite of CFE in that it didn't group well at 25 yards but was very soft shooting. If i remember correctly too i didn't like how it metered from the press
Granite i seem to have a quest in...
I grabbed it at an LGS at the time. Either way though the priority for me has been ransom rest testing 10 rnd groups sizes @ 25 yards. Groups for me were at 2 times the size for N320 compared to the CFE.
At like $45 per lb, Im kinda glad I didnt like the N320. My testing itself was from a ransom rest; so no hands. I do however usually make extra rounds of each charge weight so I did get to shoot a small amount by hand afterwards just to burn off the extra. If interested Ill update my results...
Love the price and the boxes. How does Fiocchi compare to other brands such as CCI, Winchester and Federal? My one gun has a real light trigger so Im usually running Federal to prevent light strikes
Just to offer a difference of opinion; in my ransom rest testing CFE has been most optimal at lower ranges. I have tested w 115 fmj's (twice), HAP and XTP's. I have ran 4 testing days (about 5 hrs each) w this so far and have another planned for next Tuesday; to test an even lower velocity...
I agree about the crimp; just enough to remove the flare. Two things I test are to push a completed round against the bench and re-measure to make sure bullet setback isnt occurring and the 2nd is if you pull a bullet to confirm the crimp is not leaving marks on the projectile
My recommendation would be for the dillon 650. As someone mentioned above your current quantity output isnt incredibly great and ya could get away w something smaller like the 550 but for a little more the 650 will give you the extra die station and auto-indexing as well as the ability is there...
