    Life Expectancy of Brass

Yes, as mentioned, I was doing it around every other firing. Now I do it every time prior to resizing Bolt gun for bench rest competition and working up new loads.

    Life Expectancy of Brass

I’ve been reloading for a few years, bottleneck cartridges mostly. I recently bit the bullet and purchased Lapua brass. I had been using Fed. Premium for my .223 loads and was on my 14th reload when I switched over to Lapua. Seeing as I load on the light side, how many reloads can I expect...

Reloading unfired Semi-Auto AR 10 style rifles

If it's factory new brass you're using for dummy rounds, full length size it first.

What are your next 5 gun purchases?

For sure, the next two will be a Henry Golden Boy and a Smith & Wesson 648 both in 22 WMR. I haven't thought much past that. An M14 would likely be next up with an engraved over/under sometime to follow.

As much as I enjoy varget...

Accurate 4064, although not as temp. insensitive as Varget, has worked well for me with 150gr+. I don't know if, or how well it would work with monolithic bullets though. It's one of the few powders I've been able to find lately.

    Need 223 recipe

There are so many different powders suitable for loading .223. It would help if you could narrow down your potential choices. I've had excellent results using Varget, 4895, 4320, 6064 and CFE 223.

    Accurate 4964 for .223 Rem?

Does anyone have experience using this combination? Western Powder doesn't list it for use in .223, but I've read somewhere that it can give excellent results. As my two favorite powders for that caliber are not available, I'd like to give it a shot, but don't know where to start.

    Experience with Barnes Match Burner

I've loaded 69gr Match Burners in the past with both 4320 (no longer in production), Varget, H4895 and H322. All performed well, under 1/2in. @100yrds. I'd rate them on par with Hornady 68gr, but well under Sierra MK's or TMK's

    Always the hard way records

Although I don't write the charge on every cartridge, I do write it on one along with the CBTO and neck measurement. Every round in that box is identical and those and all other information is written on the box. As I only open one box at a time when shooting, even if I tip the box over, I know...

    Powder Temp. Sensitivity?

Because I do the majority of my shooting during the colder months, my powder of choice was Varget. Now I am forced to use other powders and I wonder how much of a difference colder temps. will have on performance. My question is; If I keep my ammo warm, say in a shirt pocket under my coat, will...

    Practice Loads

For those of you that shoot competition of any sort, do you practice with the same loads you shoot in competition? When the money is on the line, my best reloads, those with top of the line components, get the nod of course. When I practice I use rounds with less expensive components, but give...

    How to Measure Seating Depth

OAL, or seating to the cannelure is fine for hunting, or plinking fodder, but I'm looking to duplicate pressures and velocities that result it the most accurate and consistent downrange results I can. Seating depth is one variable, although it may only offer minimal improvement, used to achieve...

    How to Measure Seating Depth

Just curious as to how you get there. Is there only one formula? The reason I ask is that the way I've been doing it, I come up with a depth of .425in. seating 168gr Hornady Match BTHP which is almost 1/3 of the bullets length. That just seems a bit deep compared to others that were closer to...

How To Not Shoot The Chrono

Hitting the chrono itself isn't a big problem, but hitting the metal shade supports can damage one beyond use. I use bamboo skewers and paint the lower two inches red. If I see red through my scope I adjust the tripod. On the off chance I hit a support, no harm done. Pistols are much easier...

    IMR8208 XBR

I'm wondering how this powder is for bench rest shooting. I shoot both .308 and .223 and am wondering if anyone has experience using it in either caliber?

    IMR 4320

I've been using IMR 4320 for a number of years and am very happy with it. The problem is, it isn't offered anymore. Any suggestions as to a powder that is similar?

308 barrel twist for 155 grain

I shoot 155s with a 1.10 barrel and found an accuracy node around 2600fps. Did you check accuracy, or just velocity on your work ups?

    OAL, COAL & CBTO

I figure it's fairly easy to tell what someone is referring to, if you are familiar with a cartridge's dimensions. eg. an OAL of 2.005 for .308 would be a brass length, whereas .2.800 OAL would be the finished cartridge measurement. However when I see a statement that OAL is more important that...

    OAL, COAL & CBTO

So, I've been reloading for a while, but I'm still a little confused by these terms. Are OAL and COAL the same thing?

    ES; What is considered low?

Just wondering where you guys draw the line here? Does the caliber make a difference in your decision, eg. 25fps. for .223 vs. 15fps. for 30.06?
