    DAO Day at the range

Seeing as my favorite local range has gone to a $15 all day pass; AND I'd not gotten to shoot the P290RS .380 yet, I decided to take big SIG and the SIG'lettes (and a few other goodies) on an afternoon outing. The P250 and the 9mm P290RS have already proven they'll run on pretty much any...

DA/SA semi autos ... difficult for me

Well gee, I'm starting to feel like the outlier here. I have some of everything. I've got DA/SA from antique Walthers to Sigs, a couple 1911's, my everday guns are DOA autos (P290RS and Pico), and even though I elected not to carry them, I kept 2 of the striker fired guns I tried, the PPQ M2...

    Star Firestar Plus

I've never fired a Plus, but like you I also had one of the M43's back in the day. It was a tad heavy for it's size, but it was a tank. I probably could have used it to drive tent stakes without hurting it nary a bit. ProMag still appears to make magazines for it, but I've heard mixed reviews...

    RECALL - Kidde fire extinguishers

Well foof. Out of 5 extinguishers, the one is the car is the only one that ISN'T recalled. :(

    New vs Old Guns

I'm not so much long gun people, but of the one's I have, my favorite is the Model 70 Winchester .30-06 I bought with my very first tax return check in 1977.

Reason why the US Army dropped 45 ACP and went with 9mm...

Too true. I qualified with the .45 because I was an ammo tech, and we had to be armed when moving munitions from one camp to another. But the majority of Marines that would stand watch had only fam fired with it, which was like, 2 magazine of 5 rounds, by the numbers.

Reason why the US Army dropped 45 ACP and went with 9mm...

I was there for the transition too, and distinctly remember that SOP for the .45 at that time was "loaded magazine inserted, chamber empty, hammer down". In fact, when we stood watch or sentry, the OD would inspect each pistol, then we'd holster it and secure the flap, and THEN the OD would...

    32 S&W Long Revolvers

I have a Colt Pocket Positive in .32 New Police made in 1925. The New Police is simply the .32 S&W Long with a flat tip bullet (just so they wouldn't have to put "32 S&W" on their Colts). And I shoot it quite a bit. Cabela's has .32 S&W Long as a stock item for $17.99 per box of 50. It's 98...

DA/SA semi autos ... difficult for me

It's a non-issue that gets used as an excuse a great deal. It's like people hating on Glocks for their grip angle. It's there, but it ain't all that. Same same.

DA/SA semi autos ... difficult for me

All my carry guns are either DAO or DA/SA. I like the idea of being able to take a second crack at a hard or stubborn primer without having to fiddle with resetting anything. Immediate action, or the "tap-rack-bang" thing IS plan A. If it's possible. If you're holding onto someone's knife...

DA/SA semi autos ... difficult for me

Just for me personally, I found that the biggest hindrance to me in picking up an action type I wasn't used to was my making comparisons. A Glock trigger wasn't like the Walther P4's trigger...it wasn't like the 1911's trigger...or the S&W 6906's. Once I realized what I was doing and got over...

    I'm WAY too impulsive...

I already have the P290RS 9mm. That makes a .380 kind of "um...whut?" But I couldn't resist. :uhoh: $315.00, don't collect Ky sales tax, and $9.95 shipping. :what: I know it says "out of stock". They had 1 left when I found it. It should be here next week. I'm such a yutz. Sig Sauer...

Do you buy handguns in anticipation of old age?

No...but I HAVE used that as an excuse

    Oldest Ammo You'd Carry?

This just happened a couple days ago, and this thread reminded me of it. First off, I got this ammo from my dad, it's some he "found while cleaning up some stuff". He had a .38, but he gave it to his brother at least 20 years ago, and I've no idea how he had this stuff stored. Knowing him it...

    Proposed new James Bond pistol

I have to vote for him keeping the PPK, 'cuz it's near n' dear to ma' heart. Not a lot of information on pre-war Walther production survived the war, so dating them is a bit of guesswork using the serial number ranges of guns with known dates. The experts put this one at 1937-1938. So, around...

For Christmas, anybody getting new or used firearms?

I wasn't intending to, but; I ran up on this little beauty just a few days ago. Over 20 years old and barely touched. Soooo, Merry Christmas to me

Does your caliber choice change if you're carrying in an area where drugs are prevalent?

Ditto and likewise. Same ammo, just lots more of it.

    Right place, right time...

I popped into one of my "regular stops" gun shops this morning, and they had managed to clear some shelf space and were finally going through some guns they'd taken in at a gun show some time back. The one that caught my eye was the Sig P239. It looked almost new, with just a tiny buff mark...

Revolver or Semi Auto, you don't own, only because of it's price tag?

A Sig P220 Legion. But since I already own an older P220 (1980's), and the Legion's MSRP is over $1400, I don't see it happening.
