AR Builds -- What Parts Did You Choose and Why??

I started an AR-15 build in 1990 from an Olympic Arms lower receiver. I am continuing on that AR-15 platform with a new 458 Socom upper from Tromix. I'm convinced that 223 is not adequate man-stopper without multiple hits so I have chosen the "45-70 glory wrapped in AR-15 clothing". I dived...

The one thing that's preventing your favorite from being perfect: What is it?

The magazines for the Glock 43X were obviously an after thought. They feel and look bad. I've sanded the sharp corners round so they don't bite into the meat of my hand.

    2018 Hunting Picture Thread

Kinda late with this October 2018 elk season photo but you can't get much better than "shot through the heart", like Bon Jovi says...

    .41 Mag Association

Now I'm interested in the 41 mag Pug. I guess that 243 rifle I've always wanted will have to wait, again... But then again, with the price of cigarettes so high now, and with me quitting years ago and my wife still smoking, I can buy a couple of guns a year with "my cigarette money". :-)

    Barrel cooling

Wow, thanks for all the responses. For those asking why I don't just relax, I have a reloading bench in the house, a shooting bench with 15 yard to 180 yard shooting range out the back of the house, and when I'm working up loads I want to shoot a string of 3 to 5 shots of each load and continue...

    Barrel cooling

Twiddling my thumbs and watching the clouds blow by while waiting for my rifle barrel to cool between shots, I was wondering why not use a $15 Coleman QuickPump 12V rechargeable air mattress pump to cool the rifle barrel "quicker"? I searched the Internet and see other barrel cooling fans at...

Show us a picture of your reloading bench

I built my first reloading bench earlier this year. Now I'm addicted. I told my wife she's going to have to get a hobby:-)

EAA Witness - CZ 75 spin off

Mike , that sounds like fun. I hope you enjoy yourself and get the "itch" back for shooting more often.

    41 mag load development

So here's today's shooting with the Beartooth 250 gr LFN GC at 15 and 100 yards. 15 yards was 3-shot 1 inch group. 100 yards was 5-shot 11 1/2 inch group (I pulled the 6th shot). First shot is the important one for me and it was the 3 o'clock shot four inches from center. I aimed for center of...

    41 mag load development

My last of three loads developed for the 41 mag was with Remington 210 JSP bullet, 22.0 gr of H110, and CCI Large Pistol primers. Switching from Large Pistol Magnum primers to the non-magnum primers reduced the flattened primer problem I was experiencing and produced a 1 inch 3-shot group at 15...

New load ladder, what does this mean?

Ya, thought so. Thanks for your response. As much as I didn't want separate deer load and an elk load for my '06 but I think that's where I am with these bullets. I'll just shoot them with 55 grains of powder as I can get a 3/4" group with that load, and I'll use them for deer. I get 1" groups...

New load ladder, what does this mean?

I'm trying to use the Hornady ELD Match .308, 168 grain bullet in my 30-06. Cannot find an accurate load above 55 grains of IMR4350. I'd like to be shooting around 60 grains of powder. I loaded one each at in 0.1 grain increments from 59.1 gr through 60.0 gr. I've read about "shooting ladders"...

OK, thanks Dennis. Your 215 gr SWC cast load at 9.0 gr Unique was "spot on".

    41 mag load development

Both are brand new. Both have plastic powder contact parts. I saw in the powder measure what looked like "galling" with smeared areas on the plastic. It cleaned up ok but left it stained. I suppose the RCBS and other powder measurers are all metal parts as is the RCBS powder trickler made with...

    41 mag load development

I don't have a chrony. Someday I'd like to get one. Right now I'm just looking for accuracy and no flattened primers. Thanks for the tip on ball powder measurer.

    .41 Mag Association

Can anyone recommend a scope mount for my 1980's Model 57? It is not drilled and tapped by the factory so I'll need to have a gunsmith do that for me. I would like to provide the scope mount and have them mount it. I looked on the internet and see Weigand who also supplies matching scope rings...

    41 mag load development

I worked up two loads using my S&W Model 57 41 magnum. 1st load: Beartooth 250 gr LNF GC with H110 powder, magnum primers and mixed cases. Shot two-shot groups with 17.4 gr, 17.6 gr, 17.8 gr, 18.0 gr, 18.2 gr and 18.4 grains of H110 powder. Two loads had touching holes, 17.6 gr and 18.2 gr at 15...

    41 mag load development

Perfect, thanks. One last question (maybe) I have already installed the magnum primers in all my .41 cases. I do have large pistol primers for my 45 ACP available. .Do you suggest I remove the magnum primers or just shoot them as plinkers at this point?

Yep, mid-range 215 cast plinker with Unique. Please remind me of your suggested Unique powder weight range as my Lymans manual does not list any cast bullets.
