So, You Want To Start Casting…?

Source of material. LEAD. W/O it you're done. All else is incidental and much is learned preference. If you are in the northern midwest forget even thinking about wheel weights. they have been outlaws for 20 years in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the scrap yards will not sell to the...

    So far working for me.

45acp 230gr RN Different Bullet Length Also Means Different Ogive?

Anyways, to get back on topic. I believe you owe it to yourself to try some RMR bullets.

45acp 230gr RN Different Bullet Length Also Means Different Ogive?

At one time I was loading 115gr plated 9mm and shooting them with HP-38 and AA#5 indoors. The muzzle flash and smoke was not just distracting it was also choking. That experience brought me to using Ramshot Silhouette indoors. Even shootin for hours with my cast lead bullets we could leave the...

45acp 230gr RN Different Bullet Length Also Means Different Ogive?

Funny that I have been shooting these indoors for years and find many powders more smokey than the lube on my cast bullets.

Don't understand the issue but to each their own. Also not going to ask why but if either of you want to elaborate feel free.

45acp 230gr RN Different Bullet Length Also Means Different Ogive?

I cast and load these into rounds for 2 different 45acp's. One a Witness and the other a MOD2. The SWC has been discarded because it will not feed in either gun. 200gr RNFP when loaded are very short yet they cycle excellently and cut nice clean holes in paper. Before any of these I was...

    Hornady LeverEvolution powder

Can't answer your question as to who or where but will interject that IMO it resembles Ramshot TAC in cut and color.

    Rear bag suggestions?

Exactly. Point I was trying to make from the picture was that I don't see how the gun could make contact with a rear bag once the rifle was leveled to shoot from that raised position..

    Rear bag suggestions?

Guessing my description was misleading. The position of the rifle on the bench both the scope and barrel are angles in such a way that it shot from that exact position the target would have to be located extremely high. Then to level the rifle to a normal shooting position the but would need...

45acp 230gr RN Different Bullet Length Also Means Different Ogive?

In the picture you provided use it the same way. Measure bullets from seating stem to base and then measure bullet from base to OAL w/o the steam. I'm betting you will see a deviation between bullets. Remember the seating stem while in the die is a fixed mechanical position and will not move or...

45acp 230gr RN Different Bullet Length Also Means Different Ogive?

More than likely what you are seeing is a deviation in bullet shape. meaning bullet base to ogive is not consistent. I check that with a Hornady bullet comparator though you can do the same thing the way you did in the picture. I recently did random samples of three different 6mm Match bullets...

    Rear bag suggestions?

What I see from the picture is to shoot as-is at 100-200yds that would be shooting over the target. So lowering the bipod at the front or raising the bag at the rear to level it out seems would change the POI. no?

    22ARC

I have been currently shooting a 223 bolt rifle, which I enjoy tremendously. but is nearing it's end of barrel life. It will most likely be replaced with another 223 barrel. The intended use for this is informal bench shooting at small targets. Though because of this requirement I had been...

    Rear bag suggestions?

Can't say for certain but maybe the bench top is so low that the rifle needs to be raised that far so as the shooter isn't laying on the bench. Kinda seen the same thing with people using leadsleds and then nearly having to stand at the bench in order to mount the rifle.

"Upgrades" to a Savage Axis (not an Axis II)

For sure put it on. I have zero regrets about the two I own. Let us know what you think after you have shot with it.

    Calculator for components on hand

And most likely you won't either. There are numerous variations for any bullet powder combination and then to try and match that with primers or brass cases. Will never happen. Stop and look at just the 223 and how many possibilities there are.

Ruger American Pred 6.5 Grendel to 6ARC begins

Thanks! This one happened stepping over a cable. The foot with the toe was firmly planted when I fell and bent it too far the wrong way. But now I have time to work on the loading bench as I cannot go to work.

Ruger American Pred 6.5 Grendel to 6ARC begins

Thanks! I was having trouble with 400's in my Savage 223 so switched to 450's then couldn't find any so switched again to Remington 7.5.. Had 2.5k 400's left from then so tried them in the ARC and they are holding up. Was able to pick up 3k 7.5 a short while ago when there was a Free Hazmat offer.

    First failure

Long ago I did a test using AA#5 and a 9mm case. I took 30 empty cases and then loaded ten with the target charge weight I normally use and then five each and loaded those .1gr high and low. From there I took five more and loaded them .2gr high and low. I then took all 30 and scrambled them...
