    Swiss Army...tool

Likely any multi tool, even without a knife, will still be banned from air travel, so doubt this will make them legal for TSA.

    A new monopoly?

Where was all the worry when the giant Vista Outdoors bought RCBS? I never saw anyone worrying about a monopoly, or voicing any concerns at that time? And nothing changed at RCBS that I saw back then either. Now a family owned business of Hodgdon buys RCBS and everyone is wringing their hands...

    Largest caliber you own?

Largest I own is the .50-140 or .50- 3.25 Winchester cartridge. It makes my .45-70 and .44-100 Ballard cartridges look puny. Here it is next to one of my .45-70 535gr. cartridges! And the Sharps it's chambered in. I had to buy a new RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme press just to be able to load...

    Eye relief with scopes

You don't move the mounts usually; you simply loosen the rings and slide the scope back inside the rings. If it has a picatinny rail then you may have room to also move the mounts also.

    Are you "brand loyal"?

I really can't be brand loyal all the time. Many of the old 1800's guns I reload and shoot are in obsolete cartridges, so I have to buy dies wherever I can get them. I really do like RCBS products, but often if they do happen to sell a die set for one of my old rifles their price is pretty high...

What do you do if you run out of LPP?

Primers will return, but the question will always be if you're willing to pay the inflated prices? I'm pretty sure at my mid 70's age I have enough to last the rest of my life, so prices and availability don't bother me. But in my life I've paid $7.50 per 1000 to the last at $32 per 1000. So...

Do you guys mount your own scopes?

I not only mount my own scopes, but if I'm building a rifle I D&T the holes for my scope bases. I know some guys pay or let others mount scopes for them, but I think there's probably no other work one can do on a firearm that's as easy as mounting your own scope. And very easy to bore sight them...

    First failure

That type of failure is due to the ramp on the barrel and no support underneath the case. Do you have any bulging on other fired cases to indicate the same thing, but haven't blown out? I've seen this when someone does work on the feed ramp to help get reliable cycling. But also seen it on...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

The Fecker scope I recently purchased had on front lens cap, so I contacted a fella back in Pa. who makes them for all the obsolete scopes, and asked for one for the Fecker. He asked for ID and OD on the bell end, and less than a week later I got a beautifully made new scope cap! I asked where...

Can a bad trigger help you be a better shooter?

All you'll learn from shooting with a bad trigger is how to shoot a gun with a bad trigger well. Most of that wont apply with a really good trigger as you wont need to spend as much effort to get a clean break on a good trigger. So you can concentrate on sighting and holding well as the good...

    Eye relief with scopes

No way a scope can be set at proper eye relief if it has a collapsible stock and be correct for both extended and collapsed. It's got to be one or the other. And if you stayed there you should have checked it before paying, and told them it wasn't right for you so they could loosen it and set it...

I needed another old .22 like a hole in the head....

I got one of those back around 1967 for tuning up a friend's car! He was broke like most of us were, so asked me if I wanted his rifle for my labor and I was glad to do it! I turned mine into a single shot homemade target rifle and still have it. Although it looks nothing like it did when he...

    Cutting Aluminum Cans

I just push the point of the scissors through the side of the can below the top. Then begin cutting the caps off. Once both ends are off I cut down the side to lay them out flat. Takes just a few seconds to cut them up to use as shims.

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

Both. I collect old scopes, but almost all of mine go on old rifles too. The Tasco wont as it's a little new for any of my pre 1900 old rifles, and will look out of place. A good number of my old rifles have scope bases on them for target scopes, but I don't add bases to any that don't already...

Trimming Cases and the Carbon Ring

If you'd like to save some money, buy from Rotometals in California. They sell a lot of metal products like lead for bullet molds, but also their version of chamber casting metal that's exactly the same as Cerrosafe, but cheaaper. And it happens to be on sale right now even cheaper! And that's a...

Have you purchased anything gun related in the last three days?

Purchased three old target scopes. Top is a first year Lyman 10x from 1934. Middle is a Tasco 6x-18x Bausch & Lomb copy from early 70's., and bottom is a JW Fecker Champion from 1950's in 16x.

Trimming Cases and the Carbon Ring

You're not pouring it "through your bolt action", you simply push a tight patch into the bore an inch past the chamber, and then use a paper funnel to guide the Cerrosafe into the chamber. Cerrosafe melts at lower temps than boiling water, so I use a can set in a pot of water to melt it. An old...

Trimming Cases and the Carbon Ring

I do chamber casts for any gun new to me, and make my cartridges the maximum length the chamber allows. I don't even trim .005" off the length, and in some instances where I own 4-6 rifles in the same cartridge if there's a difference in chamber lengths I make sure loaded ammo is marked for...

    Gun socks

I honestly never put any guns inside gun socks in my safe for more than a day or two. I would be constantly taking them out of the socks to see if they're OK, and wondering if anything was happening that I couldn't see? I have one old metal locker also for my run of the mill guns, and 3 safes...

    Starling Shooting

I used to shoot them with a pellet rifle around our small farm house. Then the next door neighbor showed me a trick he used. He was a well driller and said starlings love to nest in his well pipe. So he got a 10' stick of schedule 40 PVC and leaned it up against a tree so one end was on the...
