I am very fortunate that I live down the road from Frank Glenn. He is a consummate gentleman and knows Smiths inside and out. He has worked on a couple of guns and I'd not hesitate to have him work on any Smith, 1911 or any other gun he indicated he would be comfortable with.
I have a bunch of new and old smiths, and have inspected a bunch. My experience.
Old Smiths: Well hand fitted guns, especially 27's and 29's seems to be nicer than the modern guns. However, there is a a lot of variation. There are some real dogs out there.
New Smiths: Far more consistency...
ok, I've done a detail strip of a Glock slide a few times. Some guides state that the extractor guide and spring assembly should be inserted into the slide with the spring closest to the extractor. Others say say the reverse. So, which is it? Would the guide rod be closer to the extractor or...
Years ago, I bought a used STI Spartan for $350.00. Good gun. Shoots fine. But it developed barrel bump. I sent a picture of the problem via email to STI after talking to a pleasant gentleman on the phone. I don't recall his name. He responded instantly with shipping information and STI paid...
Rcmodel,
I have been told by a bunch of officers that a taser would have made no difference in Fergusen because SOP dictates that a taser is only used when there are two or more officers on the scene. One to tase, the other to back up the taser. The reasoning behind this is that there is not an...
Hey TestPilot,
From one pilot to another, look into taking one of Craig Douglas' ECQC classes. You will have no need to be passive, although if you start blasting through people, they may object.
I collect high grade shooter Smith revolvers. They all get shot on occasion. The ones with that beautiful blue that Smith no longer does are babied so that they will not need to be refinished.
The ball on mine is to the outside and it shoots great.
In my perception my model 69 has less felt recoil than my 629-3 4" and about the same as my 6" 29-3.
And my sense is that it is just as accurate.
I had finished a courtroom hearing that had gone well, and I treated my associates to some range time before I jumped on an aircraft.
I got selected for a patdown and as the guy was doing it, I noticed that my white dress shirt was covered in black burnt powder speckles from the 1911 I shot...
Shot my 69 for the first time today. Just 25 rounds. Like the others, I find felt recoil to be less than my 629-3 4" and maybe less than my 29-3 6". At least on par with the 6 inch gun. Initial observed accuracy was very good. Was using HPR 240 Gr. Will work up a hand load for it, but likely not...
I love collecting Smith revolvers and have a bunch. Also Ruger makes a fine working revolver. But for CCW and HD, I tend to turn to Glocks.
(Except when my 442-1 fills the need. :))
