Wow, thanks so much for all the feedback and suggestions from everyone, and thanks to CraigC for sharing all that revolver eye candy.
I admit I'm still not fully decided on what to get, but I have decided on a couple things:
- As much as I like the look of the 69 it sounds like recoil will...
I recently picked up a Henry X model 44 Magnum Lever Action and absolutely love it, so of course now I'm thinking I need a revolver to go with it. Gun will mostly be used for plinking/target practice, but also plan to use it for hog hunting.
At first I was looking at the Smith and Wesson 5" 629...
I decided to stick with the 686 since i am already heavily invested in 357.
Shop selling the 10mm GP100 3" is The Gun Zone in Mesquite TX. I believe it's an in store only price though so not one you could order online at that price.
I don't mind the moon clips. It comes with 3 and I will probably order 3 more if I get it.
If price was the same I would probably go with the 686 just because I already have a lot of 357 and 38 ammo.
If the price was the same between the 4.2" gp100 match champion 10mm and the 3" gp100 Wiley...
So, I went into the gun store with some recent Christmas money & gift cards with the intention of treating myself to a new revolver. I was fairly sure I wanted a Smith & Wesson 686 plus in 3" they had in stock for $710 new but wanted to look around a bit before making the purchase. There was...
Thoughts on this one?

Its looks like a pretty good combo of features. It has the 5.5" threaded barrel in stainless and it has the aluminum alloy receiver which...
Thanks for the insight!
Do you feel that the longer sight radius and heavy barrel on the 5.5" help it to shoot better groups than the 22/45 Lite? Does one balance better in the hand than the other with the significant weight differences?
Thanks!
Was looking into getting a Ruger Mark IV with a 5.5" barrel and noticed some big differences in the models available.
The standard Mark IV Target comes with either a blued steel or stainless steel barrel with lowers either made of aluminum alloy or stainless steel and the Mark IV 22/45 5.5"...
Henry All Weather 357 or 44 would be my top pick.
The 10mm carbine is another good pick. I know the CMMG is the latest and greates here, but even the Hi-Point version is worth looking at as they have been rated pretty well.
I would lean toward the 38 special.
Lots more factory ammo choices in both self defense and target shooting loads.
Plus, to my knowledge, all 7 shot GP100s are chambered in 357 so you could actually carry a reduced recoil 357 round that would be even better for self defense.
I have GP100 4.2" 22LR (no longer in production) and I have the 3" LCRX in both 22LR and 22WMR. Love all 3.
The GP100 is the prettiest of the bunch (especially with the Altamont wood grips) I love it's fiber optic sights, the trigger pull isn't bad, and it shoots like a champ, but mine tends to...
I recently purchased one of the new Ruger 10/22 Competition Models on a bit of whim because it was just too dang pretty to leave it sitting on the shelf at the gun store!

Now I'm trying to decide on what optics I want to...
