I use the Sinclair chamber length gauges on all my CF rifles. It was a real eye opener when I first used them. For instance, on my son's .22-250 (posted trim length 1.912) the actual chamber length using the gauge was 1.949. When I first measured his chamber, I knew it had to be wrong. So I...
Sizing some 9mm last fall had a shellholder that had a similar failure. Lee shellholder, rim just broke off. No undue stress or strain; just broke. Interestingly, the shellholder didn't look like steel when it failed. Had a crystalline structure kind of like pot metal.
The news media likes to keep putting stories in front of us that make us afraid. So do many people. Been reading these gloom and doom threads for 4 years now.
H-380 is very commonly used in .22-250 as it has been one of the go to powders for that cartridge for a long time. Given that the .220 Swift is an overbore .22 similar to the .22-250 I would definitely give it a try.
I hunt prairie dogs with a couple of guys who shoot .220 Swifts. Their powders of choice are either IMR 4064 or Varget. Can't give you any load info however.
My most used rifles are 2 x .22-250 and a .204 Ruger which get shot a lot on prairie dog trips. I have some very good loads for these rifles and have spent considerable time finding those loads. Still do a lot of testing as I love shooting these guns. When loading for these, I take a lot of...
Many people use it for a savings account because that is the only way they are able to save. And there is no absolute right or absolute wrong as far as refunds are concerned. Whatever works best for the individual is what's right for them. The "no interest" portion of your statement is only...
I would be interested in a poll asking how many of us checked concentricity and how many don't . If someone does, what have they seen that makes them believe that is a useful measurement and if their measuring showed rounds that had greater runout than .XXX what if anything they did to correct...
When it comes to mistakes made while loading, I think I can populate an entire thread all by myself. But I found that sometimes learning how to do things right involves learning how to do things wrong first. Telling myself that makes me feel better.
I have a MEC Marksman and like it a lot. Real smooth and solid. This is the one I use for my rifle stuff; RCBS turret given to me by my FIL gets used for handgun ammo. The primer catcher on the MEC is not great but I've gotten it to work acceptably well. I would recommend that press to...
IMR 4064 followed closely by Varget. Heard a lot of good things about 8208 XBR so am trying some of that in .204 and .22-250. Although it seems to have become unobtanium as of late.
As to the number of YouTube and internet experts:
1. Actual experts, who have gained their expertise by lots of experience, time, and learning are extremely rare.
2. Those who claim to be experts because they believe their minimal exposure to firearms related activities makes them an expert are...
Thanks for your input VT. No sooty cases and the charge weight is about 1 grain below max. Cases are neck sized only; no lube. Oil in the chamber could be a possibility although I do swab out the chamber with a tight fitting dry patch after every cleaning. I will keep an eye on that in the...
You're right 243, it is way too long compared to SAAMI specs. Like I stated earlier, I checked it 4 times and then confirmed there was a large gap there by running an empty case in the chamber then coming in from the muzzle with a borescope. Large gap. Doesn't seem to hurt accuracy though...
That is my intent. I will continue to monitor case length and case fit in my chamber. I truly dislike having to clean that hard baked on carbon out of a barrel. Way too much work .
