Wilson Combat- Why all the hype?

JD, Without examining the actual engagement, I'll take a leap of faith and say that you may have taken too much metal off the slide stop. Either that or you did not radius the underside of the engagement point after you worked on it, or perhaps both. If you want to keep this slide stop, a...

Wilson Combat- Why all the hype?

JD, I haven't seen this with Wilson mags, even on high use magazines. I use Wilson magazines exclusively in my carry guns, and quite a bit in the non-carry ones. Wilson pretty much sets the standard for aftermarket 1911 magazines. You say the follower is getting chewed up after only 400...

    practical snub nose range?

I'm aware that the snubbie is capable of making 25 yard shots. There are some guys that make amazing shots with snub nosed revolvers at great distances. If I work at it long enough, I might be reliably accurate at 25 yards with it myself. That's not the thing though. For me, a snubbie is a...

    M&P Transition Model

Transitional M&Ps are desirable as Fuff says. Shooters love them. I agree that $350-400 is usually the price that one of these guns change hands for.

    Common S&W Identifying Features

Gentlemen, this thread is not for asking about your specific gun. If you want to do that, start a new thread. If you want to add useful information to this thread, PM it to me.

Finally picked up my S&W 638 Bodyguard!!

The Bodyguard frame is my preference in a pocket revolver. I own several that I carry on rotation. They ride in the pocket better than a Centennial or Chief's revolver. Here is my latest.

Colt 1991A1 Compact Model: How did I do?

If Brownells does not carry the part, or if you want something stronger, Clark Custom carries a reverse recoil plug for the Officer's Model and Compact. Twenty bucks. It's a permanent solution. More about it here. Good gun. Whether it's a good trade depends on how it shoots. Accurate and...

    1911

For me, "the best" is the one that is accurate, reliable and durable. That could be a pistol from any of the usual players. Most are reasonably accurate, fairly reliable with most ammo, and many will last quite a long time. I tend to lean towards Colt. For people who want certain features...

    Smith and Wesson 1905

I want to point out too, that if the gun is blue, the above all still applies. If the gun is nickel, however, you risk losing a chunk or two of the nickel plating as the cylinder expands during firing. Not a big loss if its a tatty gun, but if it has a nice finish, you may want to not fire it.

    "Bubba'd " my Charter Undercover

fantastic work! As a comparison, I had Jim Clark (of Clark Custom) dovetail on a shotgun tritium sight. He did a great job, but declined to do it again. He said there just wasn't enough profit in it considering he has a year long backlog of comp guns. FWIW, he left a paper thin width of...

    Would you make this trade?

The SW1911PD is a great pistol. I own one. It carries beautifully, is reliable, and is accurate. I also have a couple of USPs. I liked them, but they are chambered in .40S&W and I just don't shoot that much anymore. In the end, it depends on what you want. I'd call it a fair enough trade...

I just dont see what people see in Glocks

I had hoped that this thread could be kept away from personal attacks. That did not last long. This one is closed.

I just dont see what people see in Glocks

I don't understand why so many people, many of them knowledgeable shooters, are crazy about Glocks. Probably because its a gun that works for them. All too often, we think that what is best for us is best for everyone. That's fallacious thinking. Proof of a correct decision is timed shots...

    10/22 project (pics)

Wow! I like! I've been looking for a 10/22 mod that isn't the usual thumbhole stock bull barrel scoped permutation. Thank you!

    My first Airweight!

bdb, as I said, the only problem I have seen in the aluminum framed revolvers (both J and K frames) is elongation of the pin hole in the recoil plate. This eventually makes the cylinder more loosey goosey, but the gun is still shootable. I have not seen a revolver lose time due to this. The only...
