I made a similar deal on a 10-5 Smith last year. Guy had a good rep and over 100 recommendations but only took check or money order. He lived in a rural town in New York best I can remember. I got his phone number from his info and called him to feel him out. He answered some questions and I...
Not trying to derail the nice thread here, but I was recently in the same boat as the OP and went with a blued Colt Competition series 70, NIB for 1000 OTD. I considered Kimbers and Springers, but the Colt was local and called to me every time I saw it in the case. I eventually made the offer...
The 165 hpbt gameking out of an 06 is...explosive...on deer. Sure, the deer died, but it was a mess and the front shoulder and lungs LIQUIFIED. Best I can remember the exit hole was about 3". In my 308 with the 165 SPBT gameking, the effect was much less dramatic. I shoot the Gamekings...
I doubt you will be disappointed with that Wilson! They make quality stuff. What sight are you going to put on it? Be sure to run a patch or two down the barrel and lube it well before you go shoot it.
I have only had one upper that was thermal fit tight. I put the barrel in the freezer and a few hours later put the receiver in the oven on 300. The barrel slid right in with no pounding or fussing. And the upgraded trigger from psa is pretty good for the money. I like to use those as a...
I am no operator, but I run a 50/50 mix of atf and mobil 1 5w30. I work at a car dealership, so I have an infinite supply. lol! I actually use this blend for just about any kind of lubricating task and even on my arkansas stones. I have found it to be adequate for lubrication and protection in...
Looks like you are off to a good start. Be sure to clean the barrel and lube everything well before shooting. Some ARs like to be shot wet and some will tolerate a little less lube. Err on the side of caution and lube it well. Don't try to ride the charging handle forward. Pull it back till...
I like the way those have a slab sided barrel. She should be pretty slick. How does it shoot now? My 5" blued 357 half lug is my most accurate handgun but had to put shims in to get the DA more useable.
Looks like a ton of fun! I think I am reverting. I am starting to like lever guns and especially revolvers more and more. I don't know why, but I REALLY want something in 45 Colt. Something about the cartridge just seems "Right" to me. Looks like you got a keeper for sure and Henry sending...
My 2.0 rides in a TT gunleather holster. I have been impressed with the quality, fit and finish and have no reservations about recommending them to anyone else. Price looks like about 130 for one of theirs now.
My GP wasnt terrible out of the box. DA was real gritty and stagey. Accuracy was there in SA so I started tinkering. It got the rubber grips with wood inserts and a spring kit. That helped a little. Then I went and cleaned the trigger plunger and hole and installed hammer and hammer dog...
You will have to just pick a bullet and try it. Different guns like different bullets. I have seen some that offered best accuracy with flat based lighter weight bullets and others that loved heavy for caliber boat tails. My Ruger M77 will shoot a 165 gameking spbt over 43.5 grains of IMR...
I typically use whatever I can find or have. I do not work up accuracy loads, never did have an AR that was accurate enough to test further. I like H335, and BLC2, but have used IMR 4064 and Varget.
