I have a few that don’t really fit a role, but I wouldn’t call them useless. A good example would be my Taurus Raging Judge. It doesn’t serve a specific purpose, but if I ever need a hammer in a pinch it’s in my safe waiting.
Smith & Wesson 460 XVR 4-5” barrel (460 for wild Tyrannosauruses/SUV’s, 45 Colt for anything else I need a handgun for)
Mossberg 500 12 gauge (pretty much does everything)
Springfield m1a (hunting/long range defense)
Ruger 10/22 (plinking/self defense from uppity squirrels)
If a store doesn’t want to budge on a price I have found that if I offer the asking price in cash out the door they will often accept. It may not be much in other states but here in Tennessee that still saves me 10 percent sales tax and a $10 background check fee.
M&P, Glock, or XD. As long as you exclude a couple Glocks that chucked brass at my head I have never had an issue with either of the three that wasn’t ammo related.
I go to Walmart very rarely, but the last time I was there (6-ish months ago) they had a 10/22 on clearance. Wouldn’t surprise me if Walmart we’re dropping it, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if the SKU number had just changed.
I am on the extreme low end compared to everyone else. I think I’ve fired over 1k rounds through exactly one gun that I have owned and I don’t think it got to 2k before I sold it. I don’t hang onto guns very long.
Taurus Judge/Smith & Wesson Governor. Never could talk myself into buying one since it served very little purpose. Finally gave in and bought one when I found a good deal on a Raging Judge. Having a gun that fires 454 Cassull was enough of a purpose for me.
I have two. First, I hate when people call a gun a “piece.” It makes me think they’ve watched way too much crappy cop tv and movies. Second, the intentional(I think?) misspelling of bullet to boolit. This usually happens in reference to reloading and there may be a reason for it, but I...
I’ve talked to plenty of actual people on local sales sites that had just as poor of a grasp on the English language. That may be due to living in rural Tennessee though.
Congrats on your purchase. I’ve always wanted a model 69, but have never found one at a good enough price to jump on it. Nowadays, finding one at all is probably pretty difficult.
I’m glad I was stocked up enough to not pay the current online prices. I like seeing the articles about the shortage getting out there though. More people hearing about it should increase the number of gun owners. A sort of “guns are getting hard to find, I better buy one” type thing.
It could also have something to do with name recognition. There are a lot of new buyers right now and if you know little to nothing about guns you will gravitate to names you have heard. Everyone has heard Glock but if you mention a CZ to them they might not have a clue what you’re talking about.
I have to admit that I am one of the people that don’t always clean their guns they trade in. I’ve even went so far as to fire the remainder of ammunition I have for the gun right before I leave to go to the gunshop if I don’t have anything else in the caliber.
This seems like a great opportunity to sell cheap tags in order to get more business to the park and surrounding businesses from out of state hunters. I’m sure they’ll go the charge as much as possible pricing many out of staters out of it route though.
I think it’s still going to be a while before it’s over. I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t get back to normal until after COVID gets under control.
I had never thought about the peace of mind thing but that is very true. It’s a good feeling knowing I couldn’t have already messed something up before starting shooting.
