Why so few SxS 10 gauge shotguns?

I recall shooting some SC with a pleasant gent with an English made 10 gauge chambered for the old 2 7/8" load. He let me try it out for a few stations. Weighing a bit more than 7 lbs, it's finely made 30" barrels with a slightly swamped rib went well with the marblecake walnut. It was a...

    America's shotgun?

PeteD, more units of the 870 have been sold(Ca 11,000,000) than any other civilian arm. The only arms made in greater numbers have been military,AK,AR, 98K, etc. Also, for others, Brit gun makers like Boss and Woodward were offering O/U game guns of Best quality in the 90s. I've...

Does anyone NOT own a shotgun?

"Daddy's night light".... AI&P, that's classic. Thanks.... I admit I'm a bit puzzled by folks stating they have little use for shotguns. Shotguns are versatile as heck. Use them on things from marmots to moose, geese to giraffes, turtles to terrorists, expect good results. On...

    First day at the range...

I love happy beginnings. A couple things...... 75 rounds shouldn't bruise you. Read the Shotgun 101 threads up top for tips on form and techniques. Use the lightest loads you can find or make. In 12 gauge, I make 7/8 oz,1200 FPS loads that smash targets when I do my part. You don't...

my "long term" observations of loaded magazine springs in my Mossberg 590

I set up my first "Serious" 870 around 1980. Two shot extension, Rem spring to match. Kept 5 in it,so down one round from full. TTBOMK, I replaced that with a Wolf spring in the 90s. Still works perfectly. OTOH, I've had to replace a couple in hunting/GP shotguns every decade or so. Like...

Kel Tec KSG abuse and torture

the count..... During the 20 years I spent in MD's Correctional System, I was a good cop working a very bad neighborhood, oft with indifferent supervision and co workers, to widespread public apathy and dreck like you just spouted. I suggest you learn something about Corrections before...

Whats the effective range of #4, and 00 buck?

I love dogs. But, over the decades I've had to take a few ferals off the count. Regrettable. yes. Necessary, also yes. Let's stick to shotgunning, OK?

WTB Remington Wingmaster - Whats the best years

AI&P,feel free to use that line. It's adapted from Will Rogers' "I never met a man I didn't like"... For the record, I like most OTHER shotguns also.

    870 Actions

btg3.... Like all my 870s, this one has had..... The action bars straightened. They've also has the shiny spots polished with Crocksticks, the flashing left from stamping removed meticulously and the corners radiused slightly. The WMs here date from 1950, 1955, and two from 1973. All...

WTB Remington Wingmaster - Whats the best years

I'm with Fred. Again. I've never met an 870 I didn't like. And I've owned them from a gorgeous TB with C wood to Frankenstein to that little 20 gauge Express that has delusions of being a quail gun.

    1950 870 for 3 gun?

I did exactly that. Around 1980, I figured I needed a defensive shotgun more than a goose gun. So, I worked over the 1950 field model Pop bought used and gave me in 1959 or so on a pheasant hunt into a "Serious" shotgun. I used it for 3 gun for a few years, hunted some deer with it and...

    870 Actions

It's like AI&P said. The only Express here is the 20 gauge the kids learned on before I put a full length stock on. After 1500 rounds or so, it's almost as smooth as my venerable 12 bore Wingmasters. Another 1K rounds should do it.

    410 slugs

I've been told that the 410 slug was made lighter to keep pressures down in the scads of old, cheaply made arms chambered for it. Perhaps. I think a sabot enfolding a .358" SWCHP at 1200 FPS would work well at reasonable pressures. Ballistic Products has some reloading options for the...
