    Largest caliber you own?

I like large caliber 19th Century rifles. .577 Snider, 577-450 Martini Henry, 45-70 and I just acquired a 43 Spanish Rolling Block. The photo shows the relative size compared to the wimpy 45-70 at the right. I'll have to take another photo with the Spanish round. It's a bottle necked case...

    Original .40-65 Loads

Cart of the World lists the Lyman 403169 bullet mold. .406 to .408 diameter, 240 gr flat nose. It's still available.

    Locked Gun Safe Problem

Look at the keypad and note which numbers have the most wear. I did that with my buddies safe and you could tell which six number comprised the combo. The numbers may be a birthdate, anniversary or some other number that may have meaning to your son. Good luck.

    1911 load question

He probably loaded that way so he would have at least two shots before a potential jam.

Beretta PX4 .45 acp. It doesn't like my bullets

It's probably the bullet profile. My guess it is engaging the rifling before fully seated. Try seating them a little deeper. You may need to lighten the load to keep the presure down from a deeper seated bullet.

    Wheel bearing grease

I wouldn't use grease, it collects dirt. CLP was newfangled stuff. We used LSA, sparingly for the same reason, too much and you collect dirt.

    Lee APP question

My brass lands in the grass or on a tarp so it doesn't really get dirty. I use the app to deprime before wet tumbling. Half the time I forget to change the shell holder from 45 back to 9mm, 380 or 32 and the rounds go through it without a problem. The only time I notice it is when I get a...

Large Pistol Primers for BP Loads

For my trapdoor, I use the recipe in Spencer Wolfes book. He recommends Magnum Large Rifle to better ignite the compressed black powder charges. I was skeptical of this and tried regular primers also. In my 55 gr loads I didn't see much difference but for a full charge heavily compressed I...

    Dillon powder measure bars

Rather than reinvent the wheel. Couldn't you adjust it to the charge you want and epoxy the standard bar to keep it from moving? You could even use red loctite to prevent the screw from moving.

    Accurate 5744 Powder Pricing

I don't know why it's that expensive. I just picked some up to try in my trapdoor. I was very disappointed in the accuracy. My black powder loads are very accurate in the rifle but I wanted to have some smokeless loads to shoot when I didn't have time for a thorough cleaning. I bought 3...

    Factory Brass?

I started reloading 380 a month ago, for a Ruger LCP Max. I started with a coffee can of used brass. Out of every box fired I usually get a split case. Head stamps varied so I can't pin it down to a particular brand. The Max is hard on the brass because they hit the side of the slide on...

I am finally done with my LEE powder measure

On light loads some powder is positional sensitive, especially in long cases like .38, and 45 Colt.. It looks like the powder was spread along the side of the case and not against the primer. I stopped using W231 for that reason for creating light loads. I switched to Tightgroup and the...

    Outdoor Rat problem!

My neighbor gave me a Mendoza pistol. It has a rolling block style action and is in .177 caliber. It's powered by a extra short .22 blank. You can fire either pellets or lead balls. I haven't tried it on rats yet, but it will penetrate a sheet of plywood at 20 feet.

    Outdoor Rat problem!

I had a Stevens over under 22/410 that I used to fire BB caps from. BB caps have a case half the size of a short with a round ball and primer only. Accurate and deadly at close range. Very quiet.

    Curios & Relics Wins Again!

I bought my No.4 mk 1* in 1972, It was still wrapped in cosmoline and in unissued condition. I paid the ridiculous high price of $49.00. Used MKIII's could be had for $35.00.

    Open Carry Gun Grab

Surprise is half the battle. If you carry concealed, you have the advantage. No open carry in Florida and no permit needed for concealed carry.

    Norinco M14

Way back when, a friend bought one. The only thing I didn't like about it, was they cut the flash hider off at the front sight to import it and had a rubber butt plate instead of the Gi steel one. Both are easy fixes. The later ones I saw had an unslotted flash hider.

    Newest "blackpowder" find

I've had cataract surgery; I can see the front sight and target fine but the rear sight is a blur. I've found that I can use peep sights without issue and the peep in the Buffington sight works for me. I set the sight at 150, the lowest setting that uncovers the peep. It will shoot about 6...

    Newest "blackpowder" find

Nice find, I bought an 1884 made in 1888. It was a parade queen, nickel plated furniture. It looks like it was carried and not fired much, judging from the lack of wear on the lock work. I changed that, since February I've used 5 lbs of powder. As mentioned before, Wolf's book is a good...

    Vinegar vs lemishine

I just buy a quart of Frankford arsenal brass cleaning solution. It's marked for sonic cleaners but it works great in my FART. A couple of cap fulls and the brass comes out like new.
