    Smaller/Lighter/Flatter than a j frame

3" NAA Earl with plow handle grips loaded with magnum Gold Dots weighs 9.1 ounces. The 4" weighs 9.6 ounces. I just put Revision CV grips on the missus' 2" NAA Black Widow. Don't know the weight but the Revision grips are great and the BW sights are better than the Earls'. Wife loves the...

    Ex-Birdshead Wrangler!

Nice work, my friend. The Birdshead grip just fits my hand better. The Birdshead isn't on the approved list of firearms in MA so we have to modify plow handles. Spent a few hours today fitting a BH grip I got from some nice guy in Idaho. I had to file maybe 1/32" off the, uhh, flat area where...

    In a moment of weakness…

Not seeing the problem. It's a .44 Special. Not seeing the problem. Not seeing the problem. Hahahaha! I love single actions--particularly the Rugers. Even my long gun is a single action--a Heritage Rancher revolving rifle in .22 magnum. Wife has a Bearcat and doesn't want to shoot anything...

    Ruger Wrangler

Tell us more about that trigger and hammer swap. And PM me if you'd like to sell that birdshead frame and grips. I'd like to try a birdshead.

What paper targets are you using?

Love those splatter targets. The missus and I shoot .22s. I buy them at the range 'cuz I'm not a skinflint and I want the range guy/babe to like me.

What are you shooting at your next range trip?

Some have theorized that the Wrangler was Ruger's response to the inexpensive Heritage .22. Can't get a magnum cylinder for a Wrangler, though. It seems to be a practical entry-level single action with a good barrel length.

What are you shooting at your next range trip?

Oh, please don't rub it in. Indoor ranges are my only option, and I have to drive over half an hour to get there. Hahaha! Yes, me, too. If the missus is going, she'll be taking her Bearcat, of course. It's like pulling teeth to get her to shoot anything else. I'll take at least one NAA Earl...

What gunsmithing or repairs have you done today

I found the front sight that fell out of its slot on my Pietta Pocket Remington! (Gonna order a spare.) That's an accomplishment!

Getting the wife shooting; our story

It's great that your wife wants to go shooting with you! Thumbs up on the ladies' gun course. My missus and I took a couple's course, taught by a married couple. After she held a 5.5" Single Six at a gun store, she thought she liked it. When we got home, she thought the barrel was too heavy. I...

What is a " Tack Driver " Anyway??

This happened to you, too? For me, that would be my Heritage revolving rifle with magnum cylinder. Couldn't believe it. I only use open sights, and this was the first time I'd used "buckhorn" sights. Didn't think I'd like 'em but, dang, those MaxiMags sure found the bullseye more often than...

“Minimalist” Principles for Guns and Ammo

I think this is the only "minimalist" post on this thread. Hahaha! I'm a firm believer in simplifying, but dang, I sure have accumulated a lot more revolvers than the missus and I actually use. Only a few calibers, though--I prefer stacking deep, I guess.

Do You Get Tired of a Specific Gun You Bought?

Not sure; let me drag that Wrangler to the range and I'll get back to you. Sure is easier to buy 'em than sell 'em, I've found.

Tell your funny gun story here

Where I'm from we call that "buck fever". I used to live where a guy could just drive out of town and (presuming prior permission) hunt on thousands of acres of high desert. Four-points were pretty respectable (counted on one side). Stories were told about a six-point that inhabited a certain...

    Best wives

Hahahahaha! My wife hasn't bought me any guns but I'm feeling pretty lucky to have a Massachusetts woman who supports us owning and shooting them. She was still kind of uncertain when I bought her a Single Six, felt better about the Wrangler, but was all in when she shot the Bearcat I found...

Why do folks like SA revolvers still?

I'm old, and it's been over three decades since I've owned or used firearms. My young bride is a brand new shooter. I want something simple. Semi-automatic handguns are involved in 17 times more accidental discharges than revolvers according to an old study I read. Revolvers it is, then. But we...

    The perfect rifle: The 30-30

I miss my H&R single shot 30-30. I had the barrel cut down to 16" and trimmed the stock a bit so it fit me like the perfect shotgun. Open sights--it was a deer slayer. I had a shot off and a second round chambered (just in case, heh, heh) before my hunting buddies could even find the mulie in...

    What did you shoot today?

Heritage revolving rifle, .22 magnum. I couldn't hit outside the center ring unless I tried. Man, I like that gun! First time I'd shot it since I got it back from a warranty repair. NAA Earls, 3" and 4". Targets looked like I'd shot at them with a 20 gauge. Wife shot her Bearcat, and as usual...

Tell your funny gun story here

Wife and I recently got our Licenses to Carry, then went gun shopping. I wanted her to start with a .22 single action, so when a nearby gun store advertised a Ruger Single Six, we went to check it out. In the course of looking at their .22 SAs, the salesman pulled out one of those 16” Heritage...
