Lee Quick Trim Deluxe - ARRGGH!!

Tired of messing with this and getting unreliable results. So inaccurate I have to waste time mic’ing each casing. The adjustment is totally a waste. So what do you use for case trimming .223/5.56 cases after sizing? I trim to 1.740 for the RCBS X-die.

    Firing 380 Auto in a 9mm Luger?

(From the OP) Thanks to all of you for your helpful responses. I feel confident now that at least it wouldn't be dangerous. And since I've now tried reloading 380s in my 9mm setup, I'm pretty sure I would notice one in among my 9mms.

    Firing 380 Auto in a 9mm Luger?

I reload 9mm from range brass, and sometimes I find 380 Auto casings. So far I've always caught and eliminated them but I'm always afraid of one slipping through. So what would happen if I accidentally loaded and fired a 380 (with a 9mm powder load) in my 9mm semi-automatic?

    Shipping Primers Legally?

I live in Colorado and my nephew lives in Texas. I was able to score two bricks of primers for him so he can get reloading again (thank you Scheels) but how can I legally ship them to him?

Free Range Brass - is that so rare?

(from the OP) WOW! I had no idea this topic would take off so much. I recently read that Australia has outlawed brass catchers for some cockamamie reason. Sounds like some of the ranges would like that to be law here.

Free Range Brass - is that so rare?

My range allows us to pick up all the brass we want, our own and the guys before us. The only brass I've ever had to buy is 300BLK, because nobody here seems to shoot it (or if they do, they police their brass). But I see so many posts about BUYING range brass, I just wondered, is my range the...

    Reloading .223 and 5.56

As AJC1 said, finding Small Rifle primers will be the hardest part. After that, go to the online sales sites (Midsouth shooters, Midway, Grafs) and find the items you want. If out of stock, click that you want to be notified when the item comes into stock. All reloading items seem to be coming...

Primers You Should Not Use With Specific Loads

I posed the question as to whether the CCI BR4 primers are suitable for semi-autos like AR-15s, or do they have the same soft cup as the #400s. fxvr5 gave me a link to contact CCI with the question, which I did. Here is their response: CCI BR4s would be your best choice right behind the 41s as...

Lake City brass Frontier Ammo variations

I collected a bunch of Frontier range brass marked "5.56 MM". It was crimped and so I swaged it with the RCBS swager. Primers still would not seat until I slightly chamfered the inside of the primer pockets. Other than that, they loaded and fired fine. Now that they're swaged and chamfered I...

Primers You Should Not Use With Specific Loads

That brings up the question of other CCI SR primers, specifically the BR-4. Is that suitable for ARs, or does it have a soft cup like the #400? Nothing on the CCI site mentions this one way or the other. After reading the other posts I would tend to avoid them also, but has anyone ever checked...

Lyman brass smith 8 hole turret press

My only question is the advantage of 8 stations over 4: I understand that it would be nice to set up a turret with two calibers, maybe one rifle and one pistol. But if you're only using, say 4 stations for one caliber, then you have to index it another 4 times to get back to the beginning for...

    RCBS dies worth a try?

RCBS makes both standard FL resizing dies and the X-dies. The X-dies supposedly extend brass life by limiting growth. You initially resize your casings, then trim them down to max length minus .020 (for the .223 anyway) and resize them again in the X-die. From then on, using the X-die, you...

Primers You Should Not Use With Specific Loads

I just ran across two primer - load mismatches that I wasn't previously aware of. Perhaps the community might post any other not-so-obvious mis-matches you know about. - Remington #6 1/2 SR primers are not recommended for .223 or 5.56. They say to use their #7 1/2 Bench Rest SR primers for...

    300 BLK Headspace Problem

Good idea. I will check that when I get the gun back from my son, who has it right now.

    300 BLK Headspace Problem

My brass was converted by Top Brass from Lake City 5.56 NATO cases. So it appears I now have three alternatives to try: 1. Try a different brand of magazine 2. Tighten my small base resizing die just a tad to get the head very slightly below the level of the case gauge (unfortunately the RCBS...

    300 BLK Headspace Problem

When plunking in the RCBS case gauge, the case head is flush with the end of the gauge. My next step, I guess, should be tightening the die down to bump it down a thousandth or so. EricBu says, "I have one AR that will not run 110s in a 300 BLK Pmag, only a gi mag," Interesting - these are...

    300 BLK Headspace Problem

(From the OP) OK, so many responses to reply to. Thank you all. The RCBS small base die was installed per instructions. The loaded cartridges fit fine into the RCBS case gauge and when mic'ed they are well within SAAMI specs for length and diameter. I am not crimping - merely tapering with the...

    300 BLK Headspace Problem

AR-15 SBR fires factory ammo fine, but half my reloads, all from the same batch, jam and won't chamber. Rounds fit the RCBS chamber gauge fine, which measures headspace, diameter and COAL. They fit loose so there is slack in the casing diameter. 110gr V-Max bullets seated below max COAL. When I...

Light Strikes on 300 BLK AR-15

Relatively new Aero Precision AR-15 suddenly starts giving light strikes. Small dimple in maybe half of the Winchester factory rounds, which fail to fire. BCG and firing pin "appear" OK. Should I suspect the problem to be the rifle or the ammo?

    Primer Pocket swage?

I have the RCBS Primer Pocket Swager tool, which is a die. It can only be used on a single-stage press because the part that is pushed into the primer pocket to swage it replaces the shell holder. The swager part won't fit on a progressive, For a turret press, it can be used if you remove the...
