    380 Day

I almost never shoot it, but I love my Bersa Thunder (like your Firestorm). Such a great gun for small change.

Very cool Taurus PT-58S. Do you happen to also own a Beretta 84 in 380ACP? I have always wondered how the Taurus shoots and feels in comparison to the original Beretta that it is based on.

    380 Day

Here is my favorite 380. The second photo with the "BEFORE" text on it is how I bought it. It looked like it had been chewed up by a German Shepherd and then dragged behind a truck when I got it (for a good deal as a project gun). Chambered in "9mm Short" on the slide. This all Model 84 is...

    Is it really “OCD”??

I like it shiny clean because it's easier to detect any problems with the brass, like a crack in the case if one exists. Also, I like it for handling, as it keeps my hands cleaner. I vibrataory clean with walnut and corncob mix. I add nu-finish to small pieces of rags to make it shine but...

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

No I have not because I do not have one in my workshop. However I am going to check my garage tomorrow. The hole is so small (again, 1mm or approximately 0.040") that I don't even think I have anything that small. But I will check my garage tools tomorrow like I said. Thanks.

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

Nicely done! Thanks for the input on the Beretta punches too. I imagine they are good for a lot of specific Beretta gun work, but with the Tomcat that I own, it is probably not a good match, as the retention pin is so dang stuck in there.

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

I actually read about the Beretta pins too. The reviews are pretty negative, so I am going to look into them a bit more and decide if I will buy them. And I have a nail setter punch out in my garage (hopefully!) that I have to look at and possibly try. Thanks for mentioning this!

Magnified view of top of slide where bossed end of retention pin is.

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

Thank you for your multiple replies. I found the German made fancy punches for around $75 with shipping on Amazon. They look awesome. I will have to wait a couple weeks before I can budget that purchase in the though as I just bought three new shell plates for my Hornady progressive press. Not...

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

I do have sets of metric roll pins , I'll think about that idea, thanks.

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

The retention pin actually has a boss on it so there is no way to try to push it the wrong direction (unless someone were really really really bad with mechanical operations). I tried hardening the punch because it was a cheap purchase that bent no matter what. I had nothing to lose. The other...

Thank you i will look for that brand

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

I'm not unlike you. I tend to type on into way too much detail, so my post is actually carefully shortened to something that people might be able to read in a minute or so as opposed to an hour, haha! I do not have a lathe or access to one, but I have 30 years of tools and makeshift tools...

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

Those replaceable pin type punches look great. Unfortunately I cannot find the replacement pins that are used with them on Brownells website. Does anyone happen to have a link to the replacement pins to be used with those punches? I searched Brownells and found 94 products but nothing I found...

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

Well, I wrote this post seeking help to do it myself. I am sure the local gunsmith could do it cheaper than Beretta, with less hassle than shipping, successfully, and probably quicker. I have the replacement parts already too. But thanks for reading my post.

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

I have an old Beretta Tomcat (manufactured in 1997, I bought it used). The firing pin is broken. The retainer pin in the slide that holds it in place is approximately 1mm diameter (approximately 0.040"). I do not have a 1mm punch. I have tried thin drill bits, grinding down the diameter of a...

45 ACP OAL of factory ammo

That’s actually the exact same gun I am using. Good to know, thank you

45 ACP OAL of factory ammo

Good take on the cartridge, thank you. It is surprising to me how close all that factory 230 gn RN ammo is to the SAAMI spec OAL. Which is also very close to the recommended minimum OAL’s in the load data. Again, much different than the way 9mm is treated. I’ll repeat what I said before...

Thanks everyone, that’s very helpful as well as interesting. Just what I was looking for.
