Not too far out of your way. The Thomasville, GA location is pretty cool and has a high end gun room. The Tallahassee location is more like a standard sporting goods store with good selection of in stock items. But prices are on higher end of market.

Depending on how much magnification you want, and if you can live with the objective size, the Swarovski Z3 scopes are brilliantly bright and clear for the money, and they come in a 1" tube.
Something would be better than nothing, but for most (myself included) I'd say training at hitting moving targets and shooting under stress would be more important when it comes to a defensive shot against a moving or charging bear or cougar. Doesn't matter what type or how many rounds if you...
I second this one. Have one and simply love it. In 20ga it's a wonderful clay gun and I can't think of a thing I'd add or improve. They were in the $900 range when I got mine, the case hardened/colored version. Other than bling factor, this gun would be hard to beat for double the money.
Serious question, but why not keep the upper on the lower? Multiple uppers for one lower? Some law about transport? Just curious, as I've never thought about keeping an upper separately. Thanks.
May not be the exact type you are looking for, but here are some Redding .308 dies in stock:
