I would keep that 686. It's a gold mine value in your safe and a great piece to own. As much as I like both my Springfields I know there are some solid performing, quality 1911's out there for a reasonable price. Just my .02.

By 617 6 do you mean older six round versions or the new 617-6? I just purchased a 617 10 round .22 in 6". Looking over the available guns I saw some listed as "Target", "Masterpiece" and simply 617-6. The original model 17 Masterpiece was blued 6" and later the Stainless Steel 617 replaced it...

I wanted to buy locally not Gun Broker/mail order and looked for months to find a 617 4" .22. Finally bought the 6" at my range shop, have no regrets, but will still look for a 4 to show up.
