FBI protected hitman-informant read the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette headline

You might want to read the article again. Barboza was killed in 1976, but Flemmi was the other hitter who the FBI recruited as an informant. The article suggests this was all part of the "Black Mass" scandal exposed by Boston Globe reporters in mid 90s.

    What does this paragraph mean?

You must inform ATF any time you plan to take any NFA gun across state lines. So in your example it doesn't matter if you plan on taking it up to Wyoming for 10 minutes, 10 days, or ten years.

Advice needed - potential ATF visit...

I doubt the ATF will even call. If they do tell them your neighbor doesn't know what he's talking about, and every gun you is legal under both federal and state law (assuming that's true.)

    A whack at knocking 922(o)

Sorry, but you've completely misread/misunderstood this portion of the law. That section merely exempts purchases/transfers of machine guns by government agencies. It does not allow for the BATF to to approve transfers to non-government persons or agencies. That was the intent of the...

Caveat Emptor! - eBay 17" 870 barrel followup

Low-Sci you need to double check your math. pcf said the difference was 1 and 1/16" which is 1.0625 not 0.0625.

    Charles Daly High Power

Not my "sacred cow" at all. While I like the Hi-Power there other guns I prefer much more. However, I still thinks it's odd whenever someone talks about the Brownings being better than the FNs. Just doesn't make sense since they are the same gun with different rollmarks. Browning always was...

    Charles Daly High Power

denster, It's more than a bit odd you think the fit and finish on the Browning guns is better than the FN guns, because they are made at the exact same place, by the exact same people, using the exact same parts and equipment. All Browning marked Hi-Powers are made at the FN factory, and...

Wyoming sues BATF over gun rights.

I haven't been following this extremely closely, but from what I understand not only is the article posted poorly written, it's also misleading. It is my understanding the BATF determined the state law to expunge convictions did not meet the federal law for restoring gun rights. However...

What if Homeland Security took over BATFE?

Well a few years ago this happened. Most of the purely tax functions formerly under BATF remained under the Treasury Dept. as the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, and the law enforcement and regulatory functions of BATF remained with BATF and the agency was moved to the Justice Dept.

    Question About Contract Murder

Depends on who has jurisdiction, and what the specific statutes are in that jurisdiction. Also, the specific circumstances of the crime could determine whether A and/or B can be charged with certain crimes, and jurisdiction.

    The Case of Cory Maye

If the guns they acquire that way turn out to be stolen, then yes I have my suspicions.

    The Case of Cory Maye

Right . . . Sorry, while I think there is more to this story, it appears Jacob and Balko don't want to get into some of those details either. I have a hard time believing he was just some innocent guy who happened to accidentally come to possess a stolen gun.

JPFO e-mail contains link to Claire Wolfe piece on BATFE appearing in SWAT Magazine.

Yeah, you're right about the Lautenberg exception to the exemption, but for the most part government agencies (local and federal) are exempt from the GCA and NFA. As I said the ATF is right in that letter to Savage, and Savage and JPFO look pretty ridiculous in posturing the way they are over...

JPFO e-mail contains link to Claire Wolfe piece on BATFE appearing in SWAT Magazine.

On the Len Savage/serial number issue the JFPO is completely wrong, and the ATF is correct. Anyone in the gun industry knows a number is required as part of the Serial Number. Also, Congress did exempt the federal government from the restrictions of the GCA and NFA, and the letter cites the...

seeking knowledge on gun law for convicted felon in another state

Wrong. It depends on state law. Some states have a process where convictions can be set aside, or rights restored by court order, after meeting certain criteria. However, when a court restores rights if there are any restrictions placed on firearms ownership, the person is still a prohibited...

seeking knowledge on gun law for convicted felon in another state

Yes, but the prohibition is on possessing firearms and ammunition. So even if the gun was made prior to 1898 (and therefore is an antique), if it uses modern ammunition a felon is prohibited from possessing the ammo needed to fire the gun.

    FTF in another state?

There are posts in that thread which quote the ATF website, the relevant CFR, and most importantly the U.S. Code, in relation to interstate transfers. All of those citations show that a person without a FFL, must use an FFL to transfer a gun to other non-FFLs who are residents of another state.
