Prismatic "Clear Vision" works very well. It goes on white and bakes clear.

I heated mine up with a propane torch and bent it out an inch or so. It is much nicer to use the way.

I am very fond of W231/HP-38. It is very versatile and reasonably priced.

I bought a second die set and turret so that I can switch between 38 and 357 without messing with the dies. I load coated cast and getting the powder through expansion die set like I want can take a little bit of time. I don't regret it.

How do the primers look on the fired cases? Flat?

It is great stuff, very tough and easy to machine for a steel alloy. It is a consistent hardness all the way through, around 30 HRC.

Just make it all from 4140 PHT and skip the heat treating.

It looks like he shot 4 and stopped. He sounds like a cautious guy. I would pull them apart and reuse everything. The note says "too hot", not "hot".

AJC and the old timer are right. Ladle is the way to go unless you have a bottom pour with a big spout and a really hot steel or brass mold.

Pull down powder?

Yes. They will work just fine. After several years of adjusting my dies back and forth between .38 and 357 I decided to just buy another die set and another turret for my LCT. Now I have a dedicated setup for each. This is totally unnecessary and done just as a convenience.

A middle charge of AA9 and 158 gr xtp will get what you are looking for. It will be a magnum that you can shoot all day and will probably be accurate. It is definitely more than a 38.
